Blaafarvevaerket, or the Royal Cobalt Works of Modum was established in 1773 for the extraction of cobalt ore from the local mines in the surrounding hills. Today Blaafarvevaerket is one of Norways best known tourist attractions offering historical insight into the extraction and production of cobalt, guided tours of the mines and surrounding area and annual art exhibition.The museum and surrounding area is a popular tourist destination in central Eastern Norway not far from Vikersund with Krøderbanen, Historic Heritage Railway running from Vikersund to Krøderen and Vikersund Ski Flying Arena with the worlds largest ski-jumping hill.

We decided to spend here our last day in Norway on the way back to the airport. There is a first free area, very easy to reach, with a waterfall and a little manual ferry which you can take to cross the river by yourself....More

Lovely little place in a beautiful setting where kids can roam free and enjoy the adventure. The little animal farm is great for the kids (and I hope the animals don't mind...) plenty of space and equipment for BBQ and picnics, beautiful environment and history....More

We need to go back to Blaafarvevaerket at least once a year. Their arts exhibit changes every summer, while the historic sights remain the same. The origin of Blaa is the old Cobolt Mines that once supplied Europe and the World with that blue substance....More

We have been to the Cobalt Mines several times and taken our grandsons for the one hour tour into the mines. Our guide was absolutely excellent - enthusiastic, knowledgeable and at times amusing. The boys still tell about how important it is to wear helmets...More
