Went for the winter fair lots for the whole family to do. Children loved the animals and cooking ginger bread . There is a lot of local craft stalls and local foods to discover. If you are in Lillehammer this weekend it is well worth a visit.

Maihaugen might be the reason why I like these old timber buildings so much, coming here for the first time when I was just a tiny tot. Haven't been here for ten years, much hasn't changed but some things are new. Came here with the family for the annual "children's Sunday" and we were blessed with real nice weather for... More

This is the Place to og if you are in the Lillehammer area on a sunny day, and want a bit of nature, quietness and to see how the rural Norwegian lived some hundred years ago.

This is a great open-air folk museum, with many examples of historic Norwegian buildings. The grounds are extensive, so be prepared to spend several hours if you want to cover the whole thing. We were there in late August, so there weren't as many demonstrations or costumed guides as there would have been during high season. The stave church is... More

We visited the Maihaugen Museum during a stay near Lillehammer. The museum has moved and restored buildings from the nearby Lillehammer from the Middle Ages to near present. The museum has done an excellent job of placing the buildings in a manner that makes it easy to take in the entire museum effortlessly. They also offer an English speaking tour... More

If you want to have some relaxing and at the same time informative hours, this is the place to be. Everything is made really nicely, with a lot of details. You can learn a lot about Norway's culture and (former) living, but you can also simply enjoy walking through the large area, especially when the weather is nice.

This is an excellent cultural presentation done as an "open-air" park. About 200 years of buildings moved to the park representing the evolution of Norwegian culture ... rural housing, education, religion ... all well presented. Our "interpreter/guide" was well informed and gave us a great tour around the grounds/buildings. Again ... if you're interested in culture/history ... this is a... More
