This museum opened up so much more of the history of this period of the 20th c and all that went on in this lovely reconstructed town. We learnt so much more about the events of the later end of the 2nd World War occupation and the scorched earth policy.

Interesting museum covering the history of Hammerfest during and after WWII. Excellent quality, but could do with some more introduction. It feels a bit like you're "thrown into" the exhibit and are expected to know a lot of the basics already. If you are new to Norwegian history it might be worth trying to ask for a guide.

This museum tells the story about Hammerfest and it's reconstruction after the 2nd world war. They have a interesting collection of photo's and video's about the nazi occupation. Certainly worth a visit.

If you want to experience how the people of northern Troms and Finnmark survived after WW II, this is the place to visit. Here you will see how it was to live after WW II, when everything was gone. No houses, no infrastructure, no docks/quays. All was either burned down or blasted away with explosives during the retreat of german... More

I enjoyed this museum and the interactive installations. The history of Hammerfest and its rebuilding is very interesting - particularly the construction of homes.

I was not particularly looking forward to visiting this museum as the name 'Museum of Reconstruction' did not fill me with excitement. However, I was completely absorbed by the exhibitions and displays inside and stories of WWII were very moving. Although not all of the displays were in English, there were plastic translation cards which we carried around with us.... More

This museum is excellent, it shows what happened to Hammerfest during WWII and how it was rebuilt. The original film footage is very moving and shows how strong the community and Norweigens are. Definitely worth a visit.

A very good museum telling the story of the city during the WWII through both pictures and various items. A temporary exhibition about the royal family`s exile in the USA and Great Britain. On the upper floor, in the tower, architecture in Northern Norway is exhibited and there is wonderful view from the top of the tower. A small souvenir... More

What a breath taking experience, the visit left me very sad, especially after having watched the old 10 minute black and white footage of what these poor people endured during the WW2 occupation was beyond belief. I never realised that they were made to suffer so very much thanks to Hitler - he sure was a busy man!!! 75000 people... More
