Astrup Fearnley Museet is a private museum and has since its opening in 1993 been one of the most important art institutions in Oslo. The museum moved to Tjuvholmen in 2012, beautifully located by the Oslo Fjord in a building designed by world-renowned architect Renzo Piano. The museum adventure starts as soon as you catch sight of the magnificent building that unites art, nature and urbanity. The museum houses the Astrup Fearnley Collection, one of Norway's most important and most extensive private collections of contemporary art, with iconic works by artists such as Damien Hirst, Anselm Kiefer and Jeff Koons.

Firstly it's a great building in a nice area. The views of the islands are a bonus too. It's expensive to see the exhibitions. But good none the less.

Astrup Fearnley Museet is a very modern, trendy, avant-garde museum, perfectly located in Tjuvholmen, just by the sea. The building itself is impressive, though very small (don't forget I'm half-French and hence very familiar to huge spaces for contemporary creation). The enclosed cafe is quite cozy & fashionable too, and it's nice to sip a drink after an exhibition visit.... More

The temporary collection this weekend was really poor. Not impressed at all. The permanent collection has a few artifacts that I found interesting. I felt it was a bit overpriced compared to other museums in Oslo.

A really nice collection both permanent and visiting spread between two buildings. I was surprised by the quality of the collection that included many big names and well known pieces. Well worth the walk down to the end of the boardwalk.

We went twice to have some lite sandwiches and a beer at the cafe overlooking the fjord. Weather was fantastic and the cafe with lovely views on the water.

The combination of fantastic architectural design and beautiful vistas over the fjord alone make the visit it worth it. We spent many hours wandering, listening to the Art Talk, browsing the legacy items as well as the LA Fiction special exhibit. Lots of areas to explore and get a different perspective on art. The LA Fiction special had some unique... More

Some pieces of modern art here are cool. Some are just reminding (me) about the fact that some artists are just bored people who finally made some idea that was a bit origiinal.

A great museum dedicated to modern art. Placed wonderfully on Tjuvholmen right at the water, and great views from the roof terrace. The exhibitions are very inspiring and interresting. The permanent collection is supplemented with guest artists and themes, both world class. The museum is very roomy, and you can enjoy the art in your own pace. Highly recommended!
