Bleikøya is a small green island between Hovedøya and Sjursøya. On the island there are approx. 90 small cabins, built in the 1920s and 1930s. I had to travel a little carefully and take into account that this is primarily a cabin island. Bleikøya is open to the public and there are several public benches where you can sit and enjoy the lovely view out over the sea. Bleikøya is for real nature lovers who like to explore. Very green, lots of lovely wildflowers. I have found field strawberries in several places. Northeast of the island is the Bleikøya nature reserve. I used approx. an hour to walk around the whole island. It's windy there! So it's always a good idea to wear some extra clothes even in summer! On Bleikøya, in the period 1885–1926, there was a coastal sanatorium for children who needed sun and coastal air for treatment. The beautiful white house located right by the wharf is the former sanatorium, and is now a shop and welfare house. I enjoyed this lovely island and will definitely come back. It was a great experience!
