We booked a hiking tour to the ice cave at the glacier, unfortunately the ice on the frozen lake was not thick enough to cross through to enter the ice cave / glacier. Overall, it was an awesome experience to hike with snowshoes up to the frozen lake ! Will definitely come back again to this wonderful place.

If visiting the glacier centre, Jostedalsbreen is a short drive down the road and worth seeing after the museum. Only a short walk from carpark (no fee) to get close to the head of the glacier.

After a coach ride round the fjord through beautiful, scenery, we arrived at the National Park Centre. This was a small area with a cafe, shop, cinema, flower garden, display of traditional artefacts, such as tent dwelling and massive rocks with descriptions. We chose to explore rather than see the film as it was a beautiful day. A torrent carrying mountain water into the fjord was worth a dozen photographs! The fields around were lush green and full of flowers and a little white church steeple stood out against the dark mountains, some of which still bore traces of snow. We could also see a huge glacier far above. The flower garden was disappointing as it appeared very neglected - it seemed to be intended to show the wild flowers of the region. We then continued by coach into much wilder and more rugged terrain, the mountains being much higher. The views were magnificent and we stopped to take photos of a glacier. The Norwegian guide was excellent.

Stunning National Park as part of the largest glacier in Europe. Some fabulous mountains, lakes, rivers offering fantastic views. There is also an excellent visitor centre which has food, drink, toilets, and history of the glacier.

The road through the Jostedalsbreen National Park is absolutely stunning for all nature lovers. The terrain changes from meadows to rugged rocks, mountains, small lakes, streams, and of the course the massive glaciers in their light, almost sparkling blue. On every turn there was yet another stunning view, grazing sheep and goats in between the boulders, and we truly enjoyed this drive through the wilderness.

Just make sure your gas tank is full and you have water and food with you. There are some restaurants along the way, however. We were truly blessed with amazing weather and enjoyed this trip through Jostedalsbreen National Park very much! It is absolutely worth the time :)

Lucky are those driving who could stop here and there for the wide range of photographic opportunities. On a major road between Geiranger and Flam, the area is pastoral and rustic for the most part. You can count on water of some sort most of the time. The Boyabreen Glacier was the star of the show.

We drove to the park which was honestly the best part - with AMAZING scenery and so many waterfalls on the way it was well worth the windy road and rainy weather. By the time we got to the park it was too late to actually enter and get closer to the glacier.
But the drive was honestly still worth it! We were hard pressed to see the glacier up close due to the cloud coverage from the inclement weather, but the rapids that surrounded the parking lot were beautiful and offered a great photo spot. We climbed the hill and found a visitors center and restaurant. We spent some time exploring the lower level of the parking lot and saw where other travelers were camping out. There was definitely a TON more to do there we just did not have the time and had arrived to late in the day.
It is worth the stop though and further research if you are interested in experiencing the glacier up close and personal !

This is a national park in western Norway that encompasses the largest glacier on the European mainland, Jostedalsbreen. This a scenic attraction reachable by bus. A restaurant is on site for an extended stop to observe the magnificent glacier in all its glory and the surrounding area. Worth a visit. One of the nicer and beautiful glaciers in Norway.
