The construction of Stave churches is really cool, but their history is possibly more interesting than the buildings themselves.

This is maybe the easiest / best stavechurch to reach for tourists and to get an idea what a stavecurch is. Out of wood entirely, No windows except of one, for the people with leprosy, to look inside and take part of the ceremony. Of...More

It's just a quick 10 minute walk from the Tram stop "Fantoft". You hop off and head up the hill right outside the stop, and signs will point you in the right way which is up the hill. The small little gate/turnstile at the entrance...More

Beautiful setting at the end of a lovely, woodsy drive. It is a reconstruction after a fire several years ago.

We were only able to walk around this, but it was worth the stop (no cost). It was taken apart and completely reconstructed using the original methods, & that is impressive considering its size. It is off the main path, so you have to know...More

On the website it said the church would be open but we travelled on the light rail to find it closed. We still enjoyed seeing it from the outside and the surrounding area is beautiful but we were disapointed not to go in.

When I knew we were going to Bergen, my one major wish was to see this church. Had I known that so many tours went there, I would have arranged to rent a car or taxi to take us there early, before all the buses...More

It is a beautiful piece of craftmanship construction. It is a bit of a walk from the Bergen Light Rail, and a bit of trip out from the centre of Bergen. But it is set in peaceful woodland and is an interesting trip out. But...More

Arson destroyed the church and the present-day reconstruction was completed in 1996. The large medieval stone cross in the courtyard has no real significance to this spot; it was brought here in the late 1800's after the church was destroyed. The church is not used...More

We went mostly to view the architectural part of the structure. The church itself is really very small and I'm not sure if services are still held there.

We took the public transit out and back with no problem. I would check to make sure it is open. It's a little hike up to the church.
