Got told to visit this museum by my hostel. Great that it’s free and easy to get to. Lovely, friendly lady came straight up to me to help me understand how the museum worked. Start at the top and make sure to take the English...More

This museum is tucked away in a corner of the fort area. It is free and contains three floors of the history of the Norwegian military. There are displays of uniforms through the ages, weapons, awards and medals. One area is devoted to women's contributions...More

This is a comprehensive and evolutionary account of Norwegian history. It is divided into three floors each focusing on a particular aspect. The general breakdown is the first floor deals with the German occupation and the resistance during WWII. There is also a section on women's contributions.The...More

I had read about this free museum right here on Trip Advisor. I sought it out when we landed in Bergen on a cruise ship. It is near the harbor. I originally went to the Burgenhaus Fortress but it had a steep admission fee. As...More

Very nicely done museum that traces Norway (focusing on Bergen) from medieval times through WWII. Each floor takes a certain era. Many displays and booklets (in many languages) in each room explain and comment on the displays you see. A free museum that is worth...More

After visiting the Fortress, part of which was frustrated by bike race iincursion into that area, available hours & ongoing work. This free admission 'find' was a bit of a jewel. Don't just 'dive in', look at exhibit list before beginning & make sure &...More

spent our last morning going round this museum. Lots of interesting displays and plenty of local and Norwegian history to learn about.

The museum demonstrates Norway's pride regarding the resistance and current role in the UN peacekeeping mission abroad. The upstairs exhibits are a bit confusing, flow is not what we are used to, explanations choppy. They do offer free tea and coffee for weary travelers.

My first impression of this humble museum (located in a rather nondescript part of the fortress grounds) was that it didn't really have much to say about Bergen Fortress. Indeed, out of three floors open to exhibits, only the top floor dealt with its parent...More
