The Sundbaten boat - The world’s oldest public transport service in uninterrupted use. Part of Kristiansund’s cultural heritage and the world’s oldest means of public transport still in use. The first passenger boat service started up in 1876. A new boat - Angvik - was taken into service in 2005, and now service the harbour along with Rapp built in 1958. These small passenger ferries depart from the Piren pier at the foot of Kaibakken hill and run between the four «lands», as the four areas of Kristiansund are called. A roundtrip with the Sundbaten is a great way to experience Kristiansund. Explore different parts of the town with churches, galleries, klipfish museum and a vivid harbour life. Enjoy one of Kristiansunds strongest cultural monument at a very low price. Frequent departures on a daily basis (Sundays only from May-October). A round trip takes approx. 15-20 minutes and it makes a nice sightseeing tour of the harbour and surrounding area. On request the Sundbaten is available for charter, ie for groups. Guided tours, city walks and even more complex arrangements through the whole region is arranged on request.

Check this one out . Cruise around the bay and see the port from all angles. This weekend there is an annual festival of timber framed boats all of them beautifully men tainted.

We decided to leave the car behind and take sundbåten. Sundbåten offers a fantastic view of the harbour. Today the fare was free and the conductor was polite and informed me of this when I tried to pay with my cellphone.

A very affordable and nice roundtrip for only 75 kr. We were allowed to go up with the skipper, a friendly man that loves his job. Nice views from the boat.

The captain was on of the old school...he made us feel special. It's a must. Pay extra and get off in each island for a 20 min walk.

Pretty quick. 20 min. 100 NOK for a family. Worth doing it, all the more when the sun is here. 3 mini stops. On each bank. Many photos to be taken.

We took a round on the sundbåt from Kirkelandet, around on its 3 stops, and back to Kirkelandet, which took about 15 minutes. The weather was beautiful and we were sitting on the sun deck, enjoying the view. There is no food or beverage service...More

This is a public transportation. you can buy a round trip and it takes 20 mins or so. It is nice and easy way to see how to city looks from the sea. Highly recommended.

Best way to discover the city is to use the sundbåt. You get to see the city from the sea, and its a "must try" if you are visiting Kristiansund. The tickets are cheap, aprox like bus tickets.

Yes you can certainly hop on hop off as this is essentially a commuter service for the locals. There is another sightseeing cruise which lasts a couple of hours and costs about 20usd
