I went to the tower during a visit to kristioansund, it is up a steep hill. There are stairs within the tower but the view is well worth the climb, views of the town are excellent, entry is free, recommended.
We arrived to Kristiansund in the early evening and stopped here on the way to our hotel - 5 minutes away.
You park the car in the street and go up a path - a few hundred meters to the top of the hill.
This was one of the highlights of our trip. We ate dinner with some locals on the way North on the Hurtigruten. We had an hour layover from 22:00-23:00. They took us up to Varden for a brief visit, then back to the ship.
Varden, it is not so easy describe how to get there, but it is close to city centre. You have to walk at least 200mtr on gravel road. It is normally open in summertime, or you can call a phone number note on the door)...More
If you are visiting Kristiansund you must go to Varden. It's just 5 minutes walking from the city center and you will enjoy the sights. Very useful to start here and then choose the places you want to visit because you have a nice overview...More
To get to this tower you drive/walk to the little park, just outside city centre. This is something everybody can do. Tower was rebuilt in the eighties, so its not old as such, but it looks old.
