Great view from the platform at the top.

Remember what goes up must come down and the steps are more like a ladder in places. The steps to the top should not take more than 10mins and for the less able there are landings on the way to stop and rest.

Lagoon itself is fed through the rock acquifer from the sea, hence it is a salt water lagoon.

We saw a huge monitor lizard when in the platform (looked like a croc from where we were). Apparently this is pretty rare.

If you take the long way down you will get closer to the lagoon. Note one review suggested you were a good distance away, only if you are lazy.

I thought it was worth the sweat. We were later in the afternoon and had the platform to ourselves. Gets pretty crowded if on the main tour groups.

We visited Emerald Lake on a day tour with Samui Island Tour and we kayaked to the beach of Emerald Lake which was great fun.

It is not too far of a walk to reach Emerald Lake from the beach, however, it is very steep and more like climbing the steps of a ladder than your normal walking path steps. Great view at the top and there is a small store on the beach where you can purchase refreshments and souvenirs and clean toilets also having a swim on the beach is a nice way to cool off after your return of seeing Emerald Lake.

You arrive at a dangerous, slippery, wobbly plastic dock together with hordes of other tourists. You pay admission. You ascend a series of steep, crumbling stairs to an oversight point where you look at a body of water no different from any other and not as beautiful as the surrounding sea. You descend and ascend more steep crumbly steps and see this uninteresting body of water from more angles, while surrounded by more hordes of tourists. Then you make your way carefully back to your boat across the perilous, slippery, wobbly plastic dock and ask yourself, why did I do this?

Our visit to the Lake was part of a private speedboat charter, which was brilliant. Our guide/host took us to the viewing platforms and took photos of us which was great.

Very picturesque and beautiful colours.

The facilities at the bottom on the beach weren’t great but we were t there for 5* drinks or food.

Would recommend taking the trip and ours with the private charter firm, see separate review, was awesome!

The steps to the viewpoint are not too many, but very narrow and therefore a bit exhausting. You can also go directly to the lagoon, only in the water you should not go, because you can not get out again.

Blue Lagoon (Emerald Lake) Ko Mae Ko lake in Ang Thong Marine National Park, south of Thailand #traveltailand2019 #bluelagoon #emeraldlakethailand #bluelagoonthailand #thailand🇹🇭 #thailandtravel #thailand #travel #travelphotography #marinenationalpark #angthong #angthongnationalmarinepark #angthongmarinepark #angthongnationalpark
The stairs leading to the lake are well made. Ensure you take the tour guide's advice about which route to take to go to the bottom and top viewpoints. Swimming in the lake is not allowed. The island has a designated smoking area and a shop to buy snacks. You can do this trek with bare feet although the sand can get hor so I would recommend wearing some footwear. I saw some people going with a personal guide which I personally feel is not necessary at all.

Another stop in the Ang Thong National Marine Park tour. Highly recommended for the beautiful lake from the viewpoint. (no swimming allowed lol)

The viewpoint is really worth it. But a little warning - for those with really big feet size, the stairs especially down from the midway point can be a bit daunting. I am US size 9.5/10, really must hold on to the railings when going down to the lower portion of the viewpoint on the stairs.

For those going to the top, I think all can do it. This one can do it within 5 mins or less (for those super fit), and up to 1 hour for those cam fanatics lol...

It is a salt-water lake, i.e. the sea water percolates through from the surrounding sea. Fish, sea urchins, etc. No swimming
