Been quite a few times as I live a few minutes away. Always clean and tidy. It's a work out going up the steps! Not for everybody, but if you like a bit of history and views (on clear days) it's spot on.

We managed to find our way here and found it open. It feels a little magical right from the moment you get close at ground level. The stairs are not for the faint hearted but you can rest on the way up and peep through the small windows but the view they offer is nothing compared with getting to the... More

This folly is an iconic local landmark to the Dearne Valley. A quirky design, the building has historic significance. To locals the sight of it, built on a high point over the valley, means home. A visit to climb the monument with accompanying information sheet on its history and the places that can been seen from the top costs only... More

Called here on a quiet Sunday morning, having seen the place from a distance many times. Up close, the structure is amazing and the views, even from ground level, are brilliant. You can see as far as the Penny Hill Wind Farm, which is adjacent to the M1/M18 intersection, many miles away.

I would recommend any visitor to attend via street lane rather than the more direct Lee Brook lane. The walk from your car to Hoober Stand seems to give a better sense of perspective as to how it was originally designed to be approached. When its open it OK and a local landmark visible from some distance

I really don't like hieghts but am glad I conquered my fear this time. I chose the perfect day, clear, but not too hot that the air was shimmering. From the top I could just make out York minster in the North and Lincoln Minster to the south that's around 80 miles as the crow flies. There is nothing more... More

Decided to take the bored teenagers and my dog for a walk, and came across this in the middle of no where ? Great history to it and on a clear day like we had. You could see for miles. Great for ramblers or simply a brisk walk 😁

Growing up in the Dearne Valley I have always seen Hoober Stand from a far (I'm now 27) and have always wanted to climb it. When I learned that this was now possible I was so excited and the experience was well worth waiting for. It was amazing!!! It was a very windy day and not very clear but we... More

It's a good work out for the legs! There are 150 steps to the top, where the views are magnificent. The information sheet you are given points out various landmarks to look for. It isn't a fun attraction , it is what it is, a viewing platform. The history to the monument is interesting. Worth having a look.
