Colchester Zoo is constantly developing and has won many awards for its work. With over 270 species to see, set in 60 acres of beautiful parkland and lakes, Colchester Zoo is well worth a visit. As you walk around the zoo there's plenty of play areas to try out including the indoor soft play area Jungle Tumble with a section for under 3s and all new play equipment where the kids can release their wild side! New enclosures include a walk through enclosure with butterflies and another with Rainbow Lorikeets offering visitors a chance to feed them a treat of nectar. Plus there's 'Bears of the Rising Sun', a state of the art enclosure which houses two beautiful sun bears , Jo Jo and Srey Ya. You can also come face to face with Komodo Dragons, see white rhino, giraffes, ostrich and kudu roaming together at Kingdom of the Wild and walk underwater through the 24m tunnel at the Playa Patagonia sealion pool. Learn more about the animals and see them up close by watching one of the 50 daily displays. You even get the fantastic opportunity to feed the elephants and giraffes yourself and take a ride on the 'Lost Madagascar Express' road train! Don't forget to pop into the discovery centre and have a go at handling some unusual bugs or get your face painted and transform yourself into your favourite animal!

I visited the zoo on a Wednesday and I would definitely recommend visiting during the week. I had the opportunity to get real close the animals, the staff are more able to talk to you and the exhibits are not over crowded. The zoo truly is a beautiful place with all the exhibits being well looked after and fit for... More

Hi all, Just need to shout out to everyone with a Gold or Platinum card for Colchester ZOO. We Visited the Zoo as we always do as a family tradition at Christmas and couldnt believe it when informed that from that point on we would need to pay to let the children see Santa and / or visit the Grotto.... Took our 6 year old grandson to the zoo, he loved it. Many animals to see and plenty of places to sit and take a break. Great if you wish to take a picnic but he food outlets are reasonably priced. Good play areas for children including a indoor area. Great day out!

This was a great day out! We booked our tickets online which is 10% cheaper than at the gate tickets. When you arrive, there is lots of space to park in. We went into the prepaid tickets building, where you can enter your code and receive your tickets and then you head into the main entrance, bypassing the queues. A... More

Colchester Zoo is a lovely child friendly area with many different things to do, when I took my kids, they loved all the animals and feeding the elephants, they especially enjoyed the giraffes! The shop is lovely too, my kids bought a colchester zoo clicking pen and the other bought a animal puppet. Quite expensive but great for a treat!

Arrived just after 9.30am. The car park was quite empty and well managed. We brought our tickets (you can buy online in advance, for a cheaper price) and entered the park. Everywhere was well maintained and sign posted, so it was difficult to get lost or miss out any enclosures. The animals were really well looked after, clean and well... More

Good value and a full days entertainment. Good interaction and chance to feed both giraffe, elephants. The baby Rhino running around at a few weeks old was excellent. All animals covered and good aquatic wildlife as well. Plenty to do in all conditions as lots inside and out.

I have been visiting Colchester Zoo since 1979. My twelve grandchildren and their parents visit throughout the year. Have been to zoos all over the world and truly believe that the animals in Colchester receive the best care.

This is the best day out you can have with family of all ages! There is something for everyone. As a disabled person it can be a hard going day as lots of walking, but is using a chair then there are user friendly routes. We have been coming back for years, when the kids were younger we brought the... More
