Forget trying to negotiate the narrow, hilly streets by car for a view of this area, park up and walk! The area was settled by the Dutch in the 1600s when they were enticed over to England with their methods for weaving, and where they...More

This is a beautiful area to visit and the town council have spent a great deal of money to refurbish the whole area. It is clean and well maintained and gives an insight into Old Colchester before the Great Siege. BUT do not enter this...More

Very interesting and of course dog-friendly to walk around the ancient Dutch quarter and nose into these quaint buildings. Fascinating array of homes. Continue your visit into nearby Colchester just up the road, to enjoy a snack, cup of tea, or something stronger!!!

This part of Colchester is very old and has some amazing architecture. You can take a tour or walk at your own pace.

A pleasant walk around the two or three roads that make up the Colchester Dutch quarter is a nice contrast to the commercialised High Street, although only a couple of minutes apart. There are some nice buildings and quaint roads, ok if passing throughout nearby,...More

We spent several hours just ambling along to look at the old buildings, and even on such a cold day, many other folk doing the same.

We are visiting Colchester for a 70th birthday and booked Peaks House. We all enjoyed the Dutch Quarter. Very peaceful, lovely to have a wander the streets and enjoy the living history.

You need to take a good stroll and look carefully at the history of this Dutch built area of Colchester, again very interesting.

A bit tucked away and not an area you would go out your way to visit, but all said worth a small detour. Pleasant.

I can't think of many places that would look the same after 400 years or so. Yet the Dutch Quarter is exact;y that. Just off the high street, you can meander down roads that were built in the 1500s down to the River Colne and...More
