The Museum is now closed for the Winter and will open again at Easter 2017, with some exciting new exhibits demonstrating the close ties that existed between the RAF and the City of Carlisle. We're also home to a collection of aircraft, aviation artifact's and displays some reflecting Britain's position as a world leader in aircraft design and innovation and the main developer and manufacturer of a reliable jet engine. The museum's primary objective is the preservation of our Aviation heritage, its display and interpretation. Take a nostalgic journey back to Wartime Cumberland or climb aboard a Vulcan Bomber and experience the conditions the crew faced that would have had to deliver Britain's nuclear deterrent in the 60's.

The museum is a Registered Charity and is run by a dedicated team of friendly and enthusiastic volunteers who give up their free time to painstakingly restore many of the exhibits. Through their love and knowledge they are preserving aviation history for generations to come.

The museum is very realistic and very knowlegable from the war time days and there is so much to learn about the aeroplanes that sit there from war times its a must do visit.

What a great place to visit with lots to see and appreciate for young and old alike. Run completely by volunteers and enthusiasts I would certainly recommend it to everyone. Just a shame it's not open longer.

Great museum, iconic aircraft and really informative exhibits. The staff were really friendly and went out of their way to answer questions. You get to sit in a Vulcan!!!

We took our teenage grandson over for a visit to the UK and to see the museum, as always (not our first visit!) the staff were very helpful even though it was their last day of opening and very busy getting the aircraft tucked up for their winter hibernation. Highlight of the trip was to get inside the cockpit of... More

Our seven year old son said, "this is the best place ever." He loved going inside three of the planes, including the Vulcan bomber. The staff here are informed and helpful and there are lots of artefacts and a very good collection of planes. There is a well stocked gift shop too. With some investment, this little museum could be... More

Took our nearly 8 year old son and he was fascinated by it, especially the Vulcan. The volunteer staff were very helpful and knowledgeable and we all learnt about the incredible history of some of the planes. Without any funding except public donations they have done a good job in keeping things going and creating interesting displays - bigger than... More
