Description:

Balmoral is the Scottish home of the British Royal Family. The Castle...

Balmoral is the Scottish home of the British Royal Family. The Castle Ballroom, gardens and exhibitions are open from the 29th March until the 31st July. Visitors are able to view the Castle Ballroom, the largest room in the Castle, used for a number of formal occasions when Her Majesty is in residence. This is a rare opportunity to see many original pieces of fine art and treasures which normally reside within the private rooms of the Castle. An audio tour is included in the admission price and guides visitors around the formal and production gardens as well as a number of other exhibitions located within the stable block. In 2013 visitors area able to enjoy an exhibition of photographs of the Royal Family by Cecil Beaton. The exhibition is organised by the Victoria and Albert Museum London and contains over forty fascinating images. Other displays include a native wildlife exhibition, a look at the Royal Yacht Britannia, a year in the life of Balmoral and our Balmoral audio visual presentation. We have a spacious self service cafe and gift shop selling a wide range of Balmoral souvenirs. Walks and trails are waymarked on the estate so visitors can enjoy a leisurely riverside walk or more strenuous exploration of the many commemorative cairns located within the grounds. Please note that Balmoral closes to visitors on the 31st July. The room open to visitors in the Castle is the Ballroom. Other rooms in the Castle form part of Her Majesty's private residence and as such are not open to the public.

After a short break in Ballater wife and I stopped off at the castle en route home. Thought entry was very expensive, however after taking the audio tour we both found it well worth the money, interesting and informative. The grounds were beautiful and the staff we spoke to were polite and professional. Only small criticism; didn't have breakfast that... More

The castle, gardens and premises are nice but most of the castle is closed to visit. You just can see the former ball's room. Overall, it's disapointing. It's worth having a look at the castle from outside, that's all. And many castle are more spectacular that this one

The area and castle itself looks nice, but most of the castle is closed off to the public so you're not able to see that much.

Only one little room is available to visitors, no photography allowed although there is nothing worth taking photos. I feel they should let unsuspecting tourists know that only one room is accessible and photos not allowed inside. Garden is laughable compared to well kept gardens of other castles and houses around the world

We were taken to Balmoral Castle by Karl, Aberdeen Tours. After paying admission, we were taken straight through the grounds to the commencement of the tour. You are giving a plan, with various items highlighted, and if you are able, I would suggest you following the plan to cover all the points of interest. There is a bit of walking... More

We have just spent a lovely day out and spent the day at Balmoral Castle, the visit was not scheduled and we were recommended by the hotel to take the 15 minute run up to Balmoral Castle. We bought our tickets and promptly took the transport up to the castle, my son thought this was great! As it was Easter... More

We had a lovely time at Balmoral, the grounds are beautiful and the one room that can be visited inside is the ballroom and again is lovely.

Our 4 year old daughter has been desperate to visit the Queens castle for ages (she's a castle fan!) so was delighted when we took her. Car park is a short walk from the ticket office & the trailer than runs guests up to the castle - they have provision to take your buggy on the back of the land... More

A lovely place to visit and follow the storey of the Castle. Be aware the balroom is the only interior bit of the castle open to visitors - the tour is good and the gardens lovely. The walks around the estate are nice
