Neighbouring Balmoral Castle, Royal Lochnagar is the perfect place to discover how Scotch Whisky is made. Watch as our team of operators tend to our traditional mashtun, gleaming copper stills and fill casks at our traditional distillery, which retains much of its original charm. The tour ends with a dram of the award-winning Royal Lochnagar 12 Year Old Single Highland Malt.

If in the area, well worth a visit. Pity there is not a non alcoholic drink offer for non whisky drinkers or the nominated car driver. A complimentary tea/coffee or cold drink whilst waiting for the timed tours would be appreciated, especially by those traveling a greater distance, a fairly common situation with all the holiday cottages in Royal Deeside.

As we were staying in the area we paid this distillery a visit and whilst the actual distillery was not operational as it had stopped for maintenance works over the christmas period we still had a very informative and interesting tour. This was followed by a tasting and well, we just had to buy a bottle or two didn't we... More

We visited this distillery on our last day. As we were the only people on the tour we had a great time going round the distillery learning how whiskey was made. Very informative and fun to do tasting afterwards

Did not go round the distillery as we had been before and, because my wife is partially disabled we would have needed a personal escort to go round and this would have been difficult as it was off-season and there were only two staff on duty. The staff were extremely helpful though and would have accommodated our needs if we... More

We visited Royal Lochnager after seeing Balmoral Caste, its only a short distance away. Our visit lasted approximately 2 hours and it was a really interesting experience mainly due to the knowledge of the guide. This is a working distillery and we were shown the process from start to finish; the smell was divine.

As a whisky expert and visitor of distilleries I was very impressed by the welcome that was shown by the distillery. Excellent and worthwhile to come.

Good historical background before a great tour with Jim around the distillery. Lovely building with a relaxed unpretentious, old-style feel to the tasting areas.

Bitterly cold when we arrived at Royal Lochnager, but the warm welcome we received from the staff soon took the edge off! The visitor centre is amazing, with a great history section which set the scene for the rest of the tour. We went around with Jim, who showed us through the distillery and the different component part of the... More

My wife and I took the royal tour, and being November we were the only ones there so we got a 1 to 1 experience. We were greeted by our tour guide Alex (I'm sorry if ive got her name wrong) and after a short film went into a lovely room with comfy chairs and paintings for tea and shortbread.... More
