We did the first 10 km, walking into the city of Scarborough. You could arrange a neat round trip hike, by combining it with part of the Cleveland Trail; free maps are easily found in tourist centres.

Nice ride with great views along an old railway line. Definitely requires off-road bikes as rough in places and muddy after rain, the section out of Whitby is worst for mud. Two hills, one between Whitby and Robins Hood Bay and the other up to...More

We hired electric bikes from Trailways. Great service, great guy Keith, recommend. Cinder trail is great fun with stunning views, we did Trailways to Ravenscar and then back to Whitby. Not a trail for the inexperienced though, plenty of long inclines and hard trail.

We did the stretch from Robin Hood's Bay to Whitby and really enjoyed it. It was hilly coming out of each village but this was a small price to pay for an amazing coastal view and then an easy downhill ride back home.

The path is good, with only a few rough patches. It does need a trail bike at the very lease and is not suitable for a road bike. Be prepared to get filthy if it is wet and the cinder track does not drain well.

This walk take you on a straight walk with good views along the way. You go across the viaduct when you are near to Whitby giving a great view of the river below.

Disused railway line now for off road cycling or walking. Some woodland sections, coastal sections, very scenic. A couple of long uphill but manageable sections. Recommend Claughton Tea Rooms, Hayburn Wyke Inn, Ravenscar Tea Rooms and/or a stop off in Robins Hood Bay along the...More

No steam train between Scarborough and Whitby. The steam train service to Whitby is from Pickering on the North Yorks Railway.
