We spent several hours here in these lovely National Trust gardens and were surprised at the amount of colour at this time of year (October). The dahlias and alstroemeria were especially beautiful and there were lots of shrubs to admire. There are also many sub...More

This is an exquisite garden with all the elements so well laid out and tended, it is a reminder of how gardens were in the past, with relaxing, formal and useful areas. The house and garden are nestled into a steep sheltered valley, which makes...More

Mottistone was a real find, with a perfectly constructed garden of many elements. Formal, cottage, fruit & veg, and naturalised all welded together in a perfect combination. A very good tea room as well. The surrounding countryside adds to the overall charm.

The herbaceous borders were just gently buzzing with bees, a wonderful sound. The whole garden is so well tended and really interestingly planted with several different rooms/areas, all enjoying this wonderfully tranquil setting. The house is a delightful building, sitting so well on the plot,...More

Beautiful peaceful garden. Well worth a visit if you have the slightest interest in gardening. Different areas show very different types of planting - sub-tropical in the lower garden, a rose garden, the herbaceous border area and, my favourite, the organic kitchen garden with it’s...More

Gardens were lovely. Initial part is fairly flat but it's very steep as you get further back. Isn't huge but very nice. If you can make it to the steeper parts there are some nice views but they aren't worth needing oxygen for.

This NT garden is quite pleasant to stroll around but you can cover the whole thing in half an hour. The house is not open to the public, so if we weren't NT members (so free to get in) we would have been disappointed I...More
