'A formal garden informally planted'...
Apr. 2021
Phyliss Reiss, the lady who created this beautiful garden between 1933 and 1962 and now under the umbrella of the National Trust.
Mid spring visit on a beautiful Saturday morning, colour in abundance, dutiful shrub beds, the pool garden and a few hidden secrets, this was a delightful visit.
Plenty of parking, a short walk through the formal meadow and right turn at the village lane to the house.
Friendly welcome, excellent guide book, birds singing, at ease when exploring the gardens.

A bit disappointing
Apr. 2021
We had called in advance to find out if there was take-away tea/coffee as we were bringing my 90yr old mother in law and told yes, but as we were still under covid rules it would be outside. When we arrived we were told the cafe was closed and that we must have asked about Lytes Cary and not Tintinhull. I know that I definitely asked about Tintinhull. Only took 1/2hr to walk around so I would recommend you do this attached to a visit to somewhere else like Montecute.

Perfectly Tranquil Gardens

I love it here, it's worth having the National Trust membership just for this as it's just down the road. Beautiful gardens and a vegetable garden to get inspiration. There are apple trees on the land between the car park and the gardens too. Love this place.

A small but perfectly formed NT garden
Sep. 2019
We visited here after a disappointing visit to Barrington Court, where we had failed to get lunch. Tintinhull only serves drinks and cakes in the small courtyard, so we had to make do with a coffee and a scone.

There is no access to the house itself, just the garden. There was plenty of colour left in the borders in mid September and it gave ideas for our own garden, due to its scale, which wasn't borders 200 ft x 15 as many NT gardens are.

Lovely gardens, on the petite size
Sep. 2019
Lovely National Trust gardens - a series of room settings really. Not that big so could be good for a quick visit. Some paths bit narrow, slightly uneven in places so might not be good if you are a little unsteady on your feet. Lovely compact shop and you can still get a cup of tea!

Lovely small garden
Aug. 2019
We visited here back in august on the way home from somewhere else. the garden is well cared for with helpful gardeners and staff. plenty of seats to sit and enjoy the relaxing scenery. We had a drink and cake in the café, managed to sit outside and avoid the wasps. Plenty of parking opposite the house; we also visited when the holiday let was open month later.

small but interesteing garden
Sep. 2019
We spent a relaxing hour at Tintinhull. It is a very small garden and there is no access to the house. The various garden rooms were varied and although it was late summer there was still plenty to see. The planting combinations were good and the kitchen garden was well labelled with plenty of produce to look at. A peaceful place with plenty of seats and good access. Nice tea and coffee too!

Pretty place
Sep. 2019 • Couples
I enjoyed a 1/2 hour wander around the garden and a cup of tea in the cafe.

The gardens were pretty but as an enthusiastic amateur gardener I would have liked to have more plant labels in the beds and boarders.

OK garden, OK facilities
Aug. 2019
Visited here on a Sunday morning. Te attraction is just the garden and a small shop and cafe, along with a potted history display of he village and surrounding areas (the house is let out, so is closed to visitors)
The garden is peaceful and neatly laid out, but nothing special. We didn't sample anything from the cafe as the inside was full and the outside was plagued with wasps.
Ok to visit if you're a NT member, but not worth the £7 entry fee if you're not..
