- john l33 contributionsUnbelievable Art in a small English townMade a pre-booked visit with a group. Well worth it because the speaker was amusing and informative and we were given plenty of time to wander about after the talk. We were all deeply moved by the dedication of the artist,a member of the congregation and a signwriter. The imaginative stained glass was a bonusVisited September 2023Travelled with friendsWritten October 11, 2023
- John W108 contributionsStunning! We were so pleased someone told us about this church. The ceiling is the most wonderful work of art. We've never seen the original but can it be better than this?! Plenty of time and space to stand and stare at this fabulous fruit of someone's vision, truly his labour of love. You must go, you will not be disappointedVisited August 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten October 13, 2023
- ianb111Melbourne, Australia855 contributionsSimply amazing.A cousin of mine recommended visiting this particular church during my brief stay in Sussex. Apparently they have coachloads of tourists arrive just to admire the magnificent artwork. It is certainly not difficult to see why. After contacting the friendly staff in the parish office, I decided to visit on a Sunday morning, during Mass. Although I am not particularly religious, this was definitely the best time to visit. Their gift shop is open for a short while after the service, so I was able to purchase some souvenirs. As well, I purchased some post cards to send back home to Melbourne. Before the service, a volunteer was explaining to me about the artwork. Apparently the artist was so amazed at the artwork in the Sistine Chapel that he obtained permission to paint a reproduction in this particular church. He had no formal training, but he did such a brilliant job. Local church members were used in the copy of The last Supper. This really is worth visiting.Visited September 2023Travelled soloWritten December 10, 2023
- barry7769 contributionsInformative and historical.Very interesting. The guide was very good and made the visit most worthwhile. One hour was probably not enough but we had a coach schedule. Very unexpected little jewel. Lots of information and some humour. You could tell it meant a lot to him and he made it a lot to us. Many thanks and hope more people get to see and experience this.Visited May 2024Travelled with friendsWritten May 8, 2024
- Graeme M2,600 contributionsEven for the non-religious - a great place to visitA marvel of local artistry producing the only known reproduction of the Sistine Chapel Ceiling in the world. All set off with wonderful modern stain glass windows. Whilst visiting, we were enthralled by the church’s proud volunteers telling the story of the church and it’s ceiling painted by a local artist and parishioner. They are happy for you to wander around and take photographs whilst in the church. There is plenty of parking available and a small pleasant shop just inside the door selling souvenirs of your visit.Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten May 29, 2024

Such on odd thing to see tucked away in West Sussex but absolutely worth a visit. Go when you are in a quiet mood, without distraction. Just sit in the pews and look up, then change position to look at more. You know you are not in the Sistine Chapel but wow the artistry is stupendous.

I love the fact that a fairly standard modern church has such a spectacular ceiling. Having been to the Sistine Chapel it brought it all back to me. A real work of love and dedication. I particularly appreciated the friendly welcome and explanation from the most affable custodian and would recommend this as something a bit different to see in Worthing..

The ceiling was brilliant, a replica of the one in Rome without the crowds and queues. We were given a lenghty and interesting talk which held orr attention. It took over 5 years to paint. a phenomenal achievement.A fantastic experience, There is a dree car park anda small shop for sovenirs. Also some leaflets giving more details. It well exceeded our expectations

Its the Sistine Chapel without the expense and the crowds. The local artist got permission from the parish priest to paint a reproduction of the chapel of the ceiling of a rather ordinary parish church, with remarkable results. Well worth the visit

It is really well worth a visit and a little added extra is that you don't have to strain your neck to view the ceiling as mirrored trolleys are available which are a great idea to assist easy viewing. There is also a well-stocked gift shop.

Is the church far from Worthing Station ?

Yes. If you are travelling by train you need to proceed to Goring-by-Sea Station and we are a short walk from there. You come out of the station head south, walk up to the top of Goring Street and on your left is a roundabout. You need to work your way across to the diagonally opposite corner - a parade of shops - and then walk east along the slip road until you reach the church on your right. Alternately the No 700 bus delivers you ourside the door
