Grappenhall Heys Walled Garden was created around 1830 by Thomas Parr, a Warrington banker, as part of his estate totalling 150 acres. In the 1950's the estate was broken up and land was sold. In the 1970's the family mansion was destroyed in a fire and was demolished. The only surviving part of the original estate was the walled garden which over time became neglected and managed by different groups. As a result of assistance from the local community, the Friends of Grappenhall Heys Walled Garden and funding provided by English Partnerships and the Heritage Lottery Fund, the four-acre walled garden has now been restored to its former glory. The garden compromises of a Victorian kitchen garden with eight fully restored glass houses and a pleasure garden with three ponds. Today, this secret garden is a true asset to the community with an array of events, school programmes and workshops for adults, groups, children and families. Charges apply for some activities and events. New amenities include a community space, toilets, picnic tables and the Fountain Room Cafe which is open from 10.00 a.m. - 5.00 p.m. on Saturdays & Sundays. The cafe may also open for selected events so please check the website or contact the office in advance. Closed Mondays

Lovely food and friendly service, although very slow at times and could possibly be improved with waitress service. The glass houses are very atmospheric, and lighting would mean that they could open more in winter months for private parties and other events.

My friend and I discovered this beautiful garden recently whilst out walking our three Siberian Huskies. A gorgeous place, and such lovely staff. The atmosphere is so calm and serene, so relaxing, the drinks and home made food is excellent. I would happily sit here all day and take in the atmosphere and lots of beautiful home made cake.

Just took my mother in law who is 78, had a lovely walk around the gardens even though is is an autumn day. Had a lovely cup of tea and coffee, didn't eat here but they had a lovely menu. The cakes looked amazing, home made. They are having a Christmas fayre on 27th November so will definitely be returning.... More

It's always a pleasure to visit this fantastically restored walled garden which is maintained by people that care with a passion. The food from the cafe is fresh, tasty and good value.

Walked to the garden as very local for us. Great choice of coffees tea and soft drinks. There was a local fruit/veg stall all resonably priced. Great customer service, friendly and efficient. Events promoted on board at front of entrance. Will defo return. Thanks

We visited Grappenhall Hey walled garden on 18 September following a recommendation from a friend. We weren't disappointed. Through the arch in the sandstone wall & immediately you come across not 1, not 2 but 3 lovely ponds. The path meandered around the gardens. We only did the shorter route as it was later in the day but we visited... More

Lived in Warrington for many years and only stumbled across this place today. What a great discovery, the perfect place to while away a few hours. Immaculate gardens, few ponds and a delightful small cafe. Add to that it's also dog friendly. Highly recommended.
