Very interesting exhibits and history of Oakham, mostly of rural interest, which you would expect, being in Rutland. Very good display of quilts when we were there. And there is no entrance fee.

We visited the Rutland Country Museum during our stay and enjoyed around an hour wandering around the exhibits and looking at all the old farm machinery, and items from times long since past. Highly recommended.

Housed in what was a military riding school, this museum shows Rutland's history from prehistoric times. There are many rural and agricultural exhibits and interactive activities for youngsters. It is also the local Tourist Information Centre.A bonus is that entry is free!
