On the road leading to the Hayling Ferry (& pub), there's some concrete constructions on the left of the road, which are worth having a look at. They're all part of the WW2 defences & preperations for the big D-Day Invasion, with the remains of...More

It was interesting that some of this battery still exists and makes one realise that it was part of the WW2 Eastern defence of the island of Portsmouth

A bit off the beaten track the Anti Aircraft battery is a very well preserved piece of WW2 history. On one battery can be found a memorial to servicemen killed at the site during an air raid. Well worth a visit.

Part of the fortifications for the Portsmouth area, this adds a new dimension to the hill forts from an earlier era.

Close to Sinah Warren hotel and worth the short walk to see. Pictorial notice boards giving detail of what it was like, what happened and well preserved areas to wander around or sit in

Worth 20 mins to see and remind us of wartime and the horrors when lives were lost there. Information boards were useful

I love visiting old wartime sites, pill boxes, defences, buildings and weaponry, I'll look at it all and spend time trying to imagine what life was like during wartime. I was staying on Hayling Island for a couple of days and found this site via...More
