- louiseholisticPenarth, United KingdomA pleasant visitA friend and I stopped off here to have a look around. The signage at the back of the property was virtually nonexistent and we took ages to find the toilets. In the end, we went in to the new cafe and asked. The staff directed us to 2 cubicles which seemed a small number for the size of the property. The new cafe was very disappointing - the large outdoor patio area looks great, but is unusable in wet weather and inside there are only five tables by the large glass window - the rest of the seating is in dark, pokey areas at the back. And the small window we sat by was filthy. There were no signs about breakfast or lunch options that we could see, just a fridge with the usual exorbitantly expensive sandwiches. The house was interesting and the room guides helpful but not intrusive. I liked the upstairs lounge where I could sit and read and imagine myself to be the lady of the house. The formal gardens are beautiful and well maintained. We wanted to find the kitchen garden but again there were no signs and the weather deteriorated so we went on our way. No shop either, which again is a surprise for a large property and I’m surprised the Trust have not put one in whilst building the cafe extension. Perhaps the old stables cafe will used for this in future?Visited September 2023Travelled with friendsWritten September 21, 2023
- srj_imagesWorcestershire, United KingdomNT Hanbury Hall - Immaculate gardens, well worth a visit. This NT site is on our doorstep & we are so lucky. Our latest visit - Sept 2023 was again breathtaking. The gardens are immaculate, so beautiful - well done to the gardening team. After a lovely walk we enjoyed tea & cake on the new cafe garden terrace. The autumn sunshine made it extra special.Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten September 26, 2023
- 141jengEvesham, United KingdomA lovely Hallday day outHad a lovely day visiting today on Halloween 🎃! We enjoyed tea and cake first in the new cafe, it was delicious. Then we explored the house. Beautiful. Afterward, we put on our walking boots and walked the parkland and up to the church. Then back to the cafe for some late lunch. It was disappointing that hot food stopped at 2.30pm. Understand the hot meals may take longer. However, maybe the option of a sausage roll/Cornish pasty (which are on the menu) after 2.30pm without the trimmings. Have visited many times and enjoyed the walk but explored the house again, which was lovely.Visited October 2023Travelled with familyWritten October 31, 2023

We had a really enjoyable time walking in the grounds and then having some lunch in The Stables Cafe .We had pasties flat whites soft drinks ,and sandwiches. - A lovely Christmassy experienceThe house was decorated for Christmas in a 70's & 80's theme, toys, clothes, records, foods and much more, it made it a very interesting and nostalgic visit. Although very busy the courtyard cafe and its friendly staff made it a very enjoyable lunch with a good selection of hot and cold foods. would certainly recommend.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten November 25, 2023

- Not to be missed! We had such a great time visiting the 70’s and 80’s themed Christmas party at Hanbury Hall. It’s full of things you thought you’d forgotten about - the smell of Brut, bath cubes, iced gems to name but three. And tasting a Babycham! It’s a brilliant idea and so well put together. Congratulations to everyone involved and thank you for the fun!Visited December 2023Travelled with friendsWritten December 3, 2023
- Pj TravelsBirmingham, United KingdomFamily day out in the country. All the family ventured out on Sunday to Hanbury Hall , the weather wasn’t great but with the right coat on we just got on with it. Unfortunately there was a slight delay getting into the house as they couldn’t open both doors and the person in the mobility scooter had to venture round the side to get in . Once in the hall was decorated for Xmas and even Santa was there for a chat 👍. The displays were of a Christmas in the 70&80’s wow , a chopper bike , Only Fools and Horses on the telly brought back memories . Please try and go if you while it’s on as it brings back memories of yester years. The new cafe was a treat over looking the courtyard the cafe provides various coffees , teas and cakes a must on a cold damp day .Visited December 2023Travelled with familyWritten December 11, 2023
- Excellent improvements in recent yearsAs a NT memnber relatively local to Hanbury Hall, we visited for a walk and lunch on a cold January day, midweek. Beautiful invigorating walk up to Hanbury Church through NT grounds. Well worth it for the gorgeous views. Love the new cafe/restaurant which has plentiful seating both in the new extension and in the more historic anterooms. Added to this is the stables cafe, which also has plenty of seating with heaters. All in all the two eateries provide much more capacity than most other NT properties. Particularly enjoyed the honey swede soup, served with crusty bread and plenty of butter, in the cafe. Really tasty. As a constructive point, I would have appreciated a choice of sandwiches in the fridges...especially for children but for adults too. This was lacking on the two occasions I have visited but perhaps are more available as busier times. Also love the playground and the child friendly toilets at Hanbury. Well thought out with families in mind. Well done NT and Hanbury Hall. A huge improvememt in facilities over recent years.Visited January 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten January 18, 2024
- herefordlizHereford, United KingdomLovely NT PropertyIt's been a few years since we came here and we weren't disappointed. We came back with my sister and we all enjoy the afternoon. Th rooms were well laid out and had a lovely little thing, 'find the mice' My sister and I really enjoyed looking for the mice in each of the rooms. We loved the 'new cafe' that was round the back of the property. We look forward to coming back soonVisited February 2024Travelled with familyWritten February 18, 2024

Looking for an interesting way to spend an afternoon without costing the earth? Then stay clear of Hanbury Hall! This historic stately home was tastelessly decorated in what was descibed as a 1970's/1980's party theme. Lamentable decorations, enhanced with Babycham and Schweppes Tonic bottles doted about, was eclipsed only by the meaningless jumble of motheaten board games. We spent an hour trying to reconcile someones idea of a party with Mr Vernons' baroqueal vision without sucess.
Having parted with £48.00 an hour earlier we made our way to the cafe only to find lengthy queues. This hastened our departure.

Went to Hanbury Hall yesterday and it was disappointing. First of all it’s a beautiful house but I attended just myself and my dog. I had researched this in advance to check what facilities we could use. The ticket cost me £14 which is the only ticket available. So I paid to go in the house and formal gardens, both of which weren’t dog friendly, however the wider grounds are beautiful and we had a nice walk, but surely the National Trust could do a cheaper ticket for dog walkers? Also, why can’t dogs go in the formal gardens? I don’t let me dog dig or damage my own plants and if they are on leads what is likely to happen?
I then went to the Stable Cafe which according to the website is dog friendly. The reason we went there is while the national trust says it’s sites are dog friendly and there are water stations everywhere, we saw two dog bowls across the whole estate, one of which had really dirty water in it and the other was being used by another dog, and I had accidentally left the water in the car. So we queued for a can of water which took over 20 mins as there was a massive queue and the service was slow, which it was a Saturday so I understand, but there needed to be more staff who were faster. As we went to pay for the can of water, I was told I wasn’t allowed in the cafe with my dog. There were no signs on the doors to say dogs weren’t allowed and also we had checked the website beforehand which said dogs could go in. I explained I was on my own, and I was told if i had asked a member of staff they would have held my dog’s lead outside. Not sure how I was supposed to know this when the website says the cafe is dog friendly, there were no signs to say otherwise or that was an option, and there wasn’t enough staff to serve, let alone hold dogs.
I think the national trust can do better than this and are missing a trick. Not only for dog owners as there were lots of dogs there, but single people with dogs must be part of your demographic?
I thought £14 was expensive but it was something different, I could do a walk and still have access to the facilities but this isn’t actually the case. Also if I’m paying £14 a ticket, I’m not likely to be disrespectful to the place or allow my dog to run riot.
Surely you could do a ticket just for dog walking in the grounds at a cheaper rate and you can definitely do more for people coming on their own with dogs. For starters your website needs to match what your staff are saying.

Wanted to visit Hanbury Hall for some time and finally did so in March 2020. The house is not as large as one of the famous stately homes but is exquisite with the wonderful wall and ceiling paintings inside and attractive gardens outside. One of the guide entertained us with short stories about the life and times at the Hall taking place at 1130, 1200 and 1230 which brought history to life. They concerned the man who built the Hall as a country pad, his second cousin who inherited the Hall and spent a lot of money, and a scandal ending in divorce.

As a solo female traveller with a dog, this was my experience. I think it would be a very different experience if you didn’t have a dog with you or if you had more than one person.
Polite staff, lots of people to help. Paid £14 entry but I was happy to pay it because it has a good, two pawprints rating on National Trust, suggesting it had some parts for dogs to go and some parts they couldn’t. However, to my horror, after paying £14, they allowed dogs to walk around the back fields, very far away from the property. Granted, there is a lot of land, but essentially, you are paying £14 to walk around some fields full of sheep.
You aren’t allowed access to the house (fair enough) but dogs aren’t permitted in any of the gardens either. You are allowed to use an outdoor cafe but I didn’t want to stay any longer as I felt I had been shortchanged and I was so disappointed.
They should have reduced rating for solos travelling with dogs as I won’t be returning again. Far better National Trust Venues. Sorry!

As we were staying in Hanbury Lodge we could visit whenever we wanted during the week. the Hall itself has stunning painting on the ceilings executed by the same artist as those that can be seen at Sudbury hall. The formal gardens are as usual for a country house of that period, Nt have managed to maintain them well in these difficult times. The wider grounds provided excellent opportunity for misty tree and sunset photographs early morning and evenings. Plenty of parking and choice of cafe's for food.

When we got inside after we had payed we were told that we could not go upstairs in the house, as not enough volunteers, was very disappointed and felt we should have been told this upon entry, but we wasn't made aware. And felt £13 was a lot just to see the four downstairs rooms in the house, and the garden.
Extortionate prices in cafe
But was interesting to hear the information about the owners of the house and the history of it.

Called in here driving home from Devon as it isn’t far off the M5. Of course, you have to pre book. The hall was closed but it was an incredibly warm day in early August so likely we wouldn’t have gone in anyway. There are gardens and also lots of orchards. Our daughter was obsessed with the apples that had fallen to the ground and eating them - let’s hope they were edible ones! Unfortunately there were plenty of wasps too no doubt hanging around because of the apples. We enjoyed visiting the ice cream parlour. Limitations placed on the cafe seemed excessive and the National Trust can and should be doing a lot more to get opened up.

Visiting Hanbury Hall for the first time since lockdown was a bit of a disappointment. We walked around the grounds and fields which was very enjoyable, together with our border collie.
However, the take-away tea and scone from the makeshift cafe was a great disappointment. OK the tea was in a disposable cup. The scone was in a disposable cardboard container - but oh, it was clear it had been bought in, and was nothing like the scones we expect from NT. It seemed to us they'd worked out how to do the minimum for the maximum prices possible. If this is typical of NT 'cafes' at the present time, then we won't be patronising them in the foreseeable future.

Over all a lovely day (2 adults, 3 children) not all rooms open. We took the children to the craft tent where they made little clay pumpkins. After they had made them we went to leave and the lady working in the tent asked us to pay (not an issue) she then proceeded to ask for £8 per child. In my opinion and others I spoke to thought it was an extortionate price to pay. (A penny sized pumpkin) No where on the signs to the tent or anywhere in the tent did it say there was a cost for this activity. The lady running the craft was very controlling over the children treating them like adults when all they wanted to do was there own design and enjoy themselves.
To summarise Hanbury hall is a lovely day out, try to avoid the entrapment of other activities.

On arrival, I was expecting to see a full house and closed gardens as on the website it states renovations are taking place. Which in my experience of national trust places, means usually that you can't walk round the gardens. ( especially as on the website, it doesn't state what's actually opened or closed) However, when I paid a full priced adult ticket of £13, not one of the staff in reception disclosed any closures before I paid. When I got to the house, there were only 4 rooms to walk round downstairs and the whole of upstairs was closed. It took literally 10 minutes to walk round for £13. I think this is shocking that they're not disclosing what is actually open when you arrive and pay for your ticket. We even queried it with one of the staff in the house and even they said the staff in reception should be telling visitors that the house is only partially open. Especially, if you've got visitors thay don't use the Internet and are non-members. Frankly, it's put me off returning as I feel let down. It wouldn't have been as bad if they would have told the information at the start, so you know what you're paying for and can make the decision whether to continue. But the fact they're charging a full price ticket of quite a lot of money, when not even the majority of the main part of the visit is open, I think is misleading and wrong. If only half a service is being provided, at the very least you should make that well known to visitors or a discount on the price should be made.

Hi, We do have a playground which is suitable for under 11's with a natural play area too. You can find the playground round to the right hand side of the house, at the far end of the stable block. It is to the right of the game larder (the little square building).
