A varied 4.7 mile walk classed as Moderate along the South West Coast Path as it heads along the east coast of Portland, passing great scenery, historical forts and old quarry workings. Many of the paths around Portland Bill are accessible for powered wheelchair users and rugged pushchairs. The first ½ mile of this route follows a level wide path, but after this becomes more varied with some steep and uneven sections before reaching Church Ope Cove. From the cove to Portland Heights the path is relatively level apart from one steep climb.

Good parking and amazing views

Really windy as expected but really good views, cheap car park and in close vicinity to eateries such a lobster pot.

A place with fabulous views! Worth a visit to enjoy the scenery and have a cuppa. Not a huge amount apart from the lovely lighthouse.

Set off at 10am for the Portland Plateau walk, great weather and sights would recommend going on a nice dry day to get the best out of the views and sights.

This is an interesting place to visit with light house and surrounding seascape. There is a good café on site and the parking is very good.

I'd prefer a pay on exit type car park as it is hard to gauge how long you will stay but we went up the lighthouse on the guided tour and thought it was excellent and good value for money. The staff were incredibly nice and there is a small visitor center which was informative plus had activities to occupy... More

When we paid to go up the lighthouse we didn't expect to get a guide, who was well informed and made his talk interesting to engage children and adults alike. Would recommend this for people of any age, although the 155 stairs up to the top of the lighthouse are not for the feint hearted!

Very calm and peaceful. My son loved it. The staff in the lighthouse were very friendly, they restored my faith in customer service in the Dorset area. Worth the visit

We wanted to pass a little time so we caught a bus to Portland Bill. The bus did not take us all the way as the service finished at the end of September but it dropped us just over a mile way. The walk was really pleasant with great views. Once at the lighthouse there is so many great views... More
