warm welcome

Been here a few times. There is always a good range of real ales. They also serve a good range of wine, well kept. It is spotlessly clean even when horrendously busy. Well worth a visit

Christmas drink
Dec. 2018 • Friends
Called in for a quick drink with a friend for Christmas.

Plenty of drinks to choose from! Spoilt for choice with beers!
Lots of seating, the back room is quite cosy and snug.

Great little Pub
Nov. 2018 • Friends
Visited this Pub on a late Saturday afternoon with friends on entering the pub there was all ages in from families to youn groups, couples and the more mature groups like ourselves.
Lots of seating available inside including big comfy sofas which are far too comfy!
Good selection of real ales and Gins, the gents in our group give a special mention to the ale called stone the crows, apparently tasty indeed.
Drinks were very reasonably priced and the staff were super friendly indeed. I also noticed that dogs are allowed in the bar area as well. Will definitely re-visit when next in the area.

You can see why the local CAMRA branch salivates over this one.

Hidden away down an alleyway from the High Street in Newcastle Under Lyme this outlet for the Lymestone Brewery is a very good pub.
A comfortable internal space with a decent sized stone flagged main bar area with some tabled seating round the edge and then an additional fireplaced wooden floored room space beyond with additional settee and table and chair seating, and then a small patio garden beyond with a couple of hop plants being grown.
But the main draw is what is on the bar in the form of the nine handpumps, mainly showcasing Lymestone Brewery Ales. For our visit there were seven of the Brewery beers and two guests in the shape of Purple Moose Dark Side of the Moose and Magpie Brewery Jay IPA and apologies to the local Stone brewery but Purple Moose is one of my favourite small breweries and I do like a bit of the Dark Side, and very good it was too.
A very good pub which should not be missed when doing an ale crawl of NuL and should be done as a double with Wellers, the small bar tap for Weal Ales, just further down Pepper Street.

Dog friendly, People friendly pub
Feb. 2018
The staff here are caring and will help where they can. A little more attention to customer service is needed by bar staff as the manager prides himself on it and his helpfulness is commended. Not a very big food menu but good food. some tea cakes and the like would be nice, for afternoon/morning tea. treats and on hand drinking water for dogs would be nice.

Hi Thanks very much for the review of our pub Dog treats are behind the bar and the staff are usually very prompt at handing them out, no idea why they did not do it this time. Water bowls for dogs are available and are usually provided on arrival - if not a member of staff will always be pleased to help The menu has just been revised and extended to include Thai fish cakes as well as Brewery Burgers. Tea Cakes and cakes are not routinely on the bar as they tend not to sell very well when we have tried them before - and I hate food waste! Hopefully you will call in again when you are passing and enjoy the new food options Regards Viv

Rude bar staff
Mar. 2017 • Couples
We use this pub quite a bit but we will think about going back after the service last night. It is normally busy but was virtually empty I wonder why! My husband is a real ale drinker and knows his beers, he ordered half of a beer to try and sent it back as it didn't taste right, the girl behind the bar wouldn't change it or offer anything else. Not good customer service at all. She said it was alright last night! It has put us off

Hello I can see from your review that you were not happy with the customer care you received from the Vaults on your visit I have spoken with the manager of the pub and read the report that was written up by the staff following your visit. The beer you tried was a Raspberry Wheat beer - a very unusual tasting ale, and not to everyone's liking. It is sharp and a little sour on the tongue which for a cask ale is unusual, but not unexpected for this style. You were offered a taster first, but declined saying that you would purchase a half pint to try it. When you returned your drink to the bar, the flavours in the beer were explained to you, however you then became abusive to the staff, shouting, screaming and swearing at them. You threatened to get them sacked, told them that they were rubbish at their jobs, and told them that your husband knew far more about beer than they did. You finally stopped shouting when the staff were forced to ask you to leave and also explained that your threatening behaviour had resulted in you being barred from the pub in the future. Your rude behaviour was uncalled for and something that we do not tolerate in our pubs. Our staff are not there to be shouted at by the customers, or to be scared by a customers behaviour. I am sorry that your choice of beer was not acceptable to you, but there was nothing wrong with the drink and your threatening and outrageous outburst was unacceptable. We seek to ensure that our customers who come and drink with us, do so in a friendly and calm atmosphere, where they are free from shouting, swearing and bad behaviour. If you read our other reviews you will see that our customers feel that way too. I trust that you will find other places to drink in the Newcastle area other than the Vaults.

Great place for an evening's drink
Feb. 2016 • Family
I love this place for the fact it has such a wide range of choice with regards to lager, cider as well as wines and spirits. There is a nice relaxed crowd there and the sofas are particularly nice to chill out on. Be careful, some of their drinks are stronger than they taste!

Thanks very much for taking the time to review our pub. We are really pleased that you have enjoyed your visit, even if it sounds like the sofa's were a struggle to get out of! They are low to the ground and very comfy so perhaps it was that an not the strong drinks after all??? Your right though we do have some stronger beers available especially in the Belgian range When you are ready for another relaxed night out come back and see us again Thanks again Viv
