A local independently-run museum with an eclectic flavour, Ilfracombe museum has eight rooms filled with treasures. We have natural history specimens from around the world and plenty to see about Ilfracombe's past. Come and experience a museum that is unique and family-friendly. Children can explore our insect, bat and spider specimens, have a go at a dinosaur quiz, or send Morse code messages. Try your hand at brass rubbing, or browse our great value gift shop. We also have extensive photographic and family history resources for Ilfracombe. Our museum is a perfect all-weather attraction and can be easily accessed by wheelchair. Pay parking in car park outside the museum. Children under 16 FREE, £5 for adults, £4.00 concessions. Annual season ticket £7.50

There are a wide variety of items on display covering not only the history of Ilfracombe but also ordinary life in times gone by. The entry fee was very reasonable, the staff helpful and the displays were very well lit which made such a difference...More

I would expect a town Museum to mainly have information about the town and surrounding area. This Museum does that, to some extent, but it also holds the collection of the man who created the Museum. This is stuff he collected on his travels around...More

Great place to visit on a rainy day, but make sure you take to time to open draws and read the books available.

Great little museum with lots to see and learn about. Sadly we could both remember lots of the exhibits Lovely pair of ladies with excellent knowledge of their subject. Very interesting learning about SOS and how the messages were actually sent. Some very clever people...More

My wife & I walked past this museum after noticing the Lord Mayor standing outside. There was bunting and a Town-Crier (?) plus local BBC TV inviting all for free. We were welcomed in by the grandson of the founder and after official ceremonies we...More

Based on other reviews I got the impression that you would spend at a minimum 2/3 hours here. We did it in 30 minutes. None of the rubbing templates were available for use and the only addition was a hunt the dinosaurs. So for 10...More

There were four of us - two teenagers and two over 50s, but it had a little to interest both age groups. The staff were really friendly and helpful. Not a massive museum, but believe they have plans to expand.
