Damien Hirst's statue of Verity was unusual but wonderful. It is free to see and is positioned at a good place for views and photos. Seating available, and information about the statue

My wife was excited to view the statue verity so we popped down to the harbour area. It's a free activity which is always nice. Impressive art if a little dark in nature for some. Spent around 15 minutes viewing which was plenty with photographs...More

My fourth visit to Verity she is still as beautiful and magnificent as ever. Some new seating and railings to the area helps the surrounding area. Well worth t he look

Fantastic weather, sun behind Verity creating a Halo effect, stunning . New benches added just below facing her, with named plaques, very sad that some are for a 16 year old girl 😩

Lacks grace, subtlety, artistic merit and original thought. It is a giant mish mash of "on trend" pseudo concepts welded together to spoil a lovely view.

The statue is quite impressive. We were given the story behind it whilst on a harbor cruise. This makes it more interesting.

I thought the Verity statue was a hideous eye sore. Once I knew what the meaning behind it was I was a little more accepting of it. Not sure it belongs in Ilfracombe though

Huge, striking and slightly bizarre. Gets people talking, and that's exactly what art is supposed to do. Loved it. Loads of parking around the harbour but gets busy, so go early. £1.10 an hour pay and display (as are all the car parks in the...More

Pretty but unfortunately can't see much of the statue from land. Worth a mooch if passing, probably much nicer from the sea though.

I first saw Verity from a small beach opposite the harbour side at 6.30am. She was impressive then, let alone up close! I think it's a really interesting and strong addition the the landscape.

I totally agree with everything that you have said on this disgusting eye sore. What were they thinking ! It does not go with the surroundings , something like this would look better in some arty museum or in the city . Putting up a huge statue of a seagul would have made more sense than this verity statue !! Dumb or what ! ! !

A seagull? Better a giant pastry
What exactly is the meaning of the statue? I personally think it's a monstrosity and is totally not in keeping with the village. A statue of a fisherman or lifeboat man would have been more approprate. Roll on the next 9yrs when it can be taken down and tipped over the harbour wall into the sea.
