We visited early morning - parking was easy though driving up to the castle was confusing due to town road works. Entry was good as we are long established English Heritage members. All staff were extremely well trained, helpful and informative. The hour long guided tour was really worth doing and we learnt lots of information. The young lady guide was exemplary. We the enjoyed a lovely lunch in the cafe and did our own self guided tour at leisure. This included the military museum exhibition and the internal castle rooms, stunningly decorated. One of the few places inside photography was allowed. Stunning location with expansive scenic views. So glad we stopped our journey to visit this castle.

Fantastic views. Excellent restoration. Absolutely brilliant tour guide Sara brought history of the place alive. And helped us to make the most of just a day there. Fine weather really helped us to enjoy the castle.

Before heading up to the castle, our group stopped at Stirling Bridge to hear about the battle where William Wallace and Andrew Moray defeated the English army. The castle itself is very nice. In the distance, you can see a large monument to William Wallace. Inside the castle, you can see why they built it there, and why they say whoever controls Stirling controls Scotland. There are canon that were placed in the castle to battle the Jacobites (but the fight never came). There's also a very nice statue of Robert the Bruce outside the castle walls.

Had a great time today. Took a tour to get to know a bit more about the history of the castle. It was very interesting, and I learned a bit more about the castle and Scottish history. Had some fantastic views. I was lucky that at the time I had a tour it's was nice weather.

The castle was well restored and looked great externally. Internally, there wasn't much in the way of furniture or decoration enabling you to imagine its use in the 1500s. I also found the notion that everything was recently restored difficult, as there appeared to be little dated back. The castle was a really great place to visit though, despite this.

We loved our tour at Stirling Castle. Easy to locate, easy to park, we arrived just in time for what we were told was the "signature tour" with Dave, a knowledgeable man who has done extensive research into Mary, Queen of Scots and her experiences at Stirling Castle. An expertly delivered piece of research that included carefully looked at varying accounts, listening to him was a delight. It was easy to imagine what the castle must have looked like during Mary's time, and the narrative took place in the various rooms and open spaces where events actually transpired. It was over much too soon! None of the other castles we were able to visit had this level of scholarship applied to them. It was a fabulous, unforgettable experience.

Our visit to the castle was very good. We booked online before we went, we drove to Stirling and caught a bus from the park and ride just outside the city, the bus dropped us off very close to the Castle. Not too busy at 11am, we joined a guided tour that covered all the main parts of the castle and the history. The tour guide , well she was fabulous, loud and very proud of the castle and of being Scottish, She nearly brought a tear to my eyes listening to her talk about the famous battles in the area. After the tour we visited most of the inside of the castle like the Royal apartments, the kitchens, the goal the armouries etc. We walked up on the walls, fantastic views from there over the town, the river Forth and in the distance the huge Wallace Monument. We also spent a bit of time at the military museum of the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders which was superb. We spent over four hours at the Castle and enjoyed every minute of it

A must do if you are visiting Stirling. Lots of rooms and things to see, from the great hall to tapestries and kitchens. The wooden carved Stirling heads are beautiful. Great views from the top across the city too. There is a car park at the top but we found it easier to use the park and ride. It’s free, the buses are frequent and there are lots stops so you can get off near the castle then walk into the centre for lunch.

We came here with our tour group. However, you can also get here by train from Edinburgh, and it takes about 1 hour one-way. We enjoyed our visit and thought it was much nicer than the Edinburgh Castle. There is a lot to see so either take a guided tour or purchase the audio guide. We wandered around on our own since nothing was provided by our tour group and in talking with other passengers on our tour, we realized that we missed some of the highlights. The Palace Apartments have beautiful furnishings and woodworking. Picture taking is allowed there. You can also walk along the walls for stunning views of the area. We were short on time, so we did a quick walk in the town and the adjoining cemetery. If you come, allow yourself at least 4 hours to see everything including the town, which was very quaint.

We visited when there were renaissance actors, lots of activities for the kids, it was really good! Our children really enjoyed it and it definitely brought history alive for them. The only downside was car parking, we were waved away from the car park entrance, eventually found on street parking (there isn't much), walked up to the castle to find cars driving into the car park... anyway we made our booked time slot to enter and enjoyed it but alternative parking is something to plan for if you have pre-purchased tickets and need to drive as it really is limited.
