Great place to visit if you like views, castles, hide and seek. Kids had lots of fun running around. It’s much bigger than it looks from the outside and lots of books and crannys to climb and peer into. Really worth stopping at - as...More

Nice spot, you can still still see how impressive this castle would have been. As an English Heritage member had to visit as was on our way Whitby Abbey. Lady in the shop was delightful, sold us some slow gin and blackcurrant curd, and I...More

There is a quiet, unassuming route up a small road from Pickering village to get to the castle, but when you get there it is quite a spectacle. It's a compact motte & bailey castle with more structure remaining that you'd think. It was a...More

We went there in the evening but it was closed. We ended up walking around and had good time there. It was not far away from our hotel.

As pass holders we have been here a number of times. It always how quiet it is compared to other attractions in the town. Even without a pass it is cheap. The castle is reasonably preserved and offers a fantastic place for children to run...More

This was a thoroughly enjoyable way to spend an hour or two. Visited on a crisp, sunny autumn day and the views from the castle were fantastic. It is worth purchasing a £3 guide book to put everything into perspective and to help you imagine...More

Well preserved motte and bailey, but most of walls are ruins. Good for a stroll round and would be great for a picnic in nice weather. Our family like ruined castles, but this one would not be on our top 5 which would be middleham,...More

Visited here while on holiday in Pickering. We enjoyed exploring the grounds and reading the information boards. Interesting place, and the views of the surrounding countryside are very good from the towers. As we are members of English Heritage we did not have to pay.

Yes, you can go round in a wheelchair, but there are some restrictions, and dogs are allowed if kept on a lead.

I have visited Pickering Castle many times, and have seen people with their dogs on the castle grounds, and always on a lead. So I am certain that it is allowed.
