I'll go West to East next time !
Jul. 2021
Cycled this with my son over 3 days from East to West. Very impressed with the quality of the roads and the lack of traffic! We got lucky with the weather which made everything look better but the stage between Your and Settle was breathtaking. A few tough hills especially Patley Bridge/Greenhow Hill.
A good route and a great way to see Yorkshire & Lancashire. If I do it again I'll go West to East like everyone else to avoid the headwinds.

Way of the Roses… great route
May 2021 • Couples
We ride this as two couples, three of us were not regular cyclists. We do run but cycle less often.
We found the hills were a challenge for us, we should have done a lot more hill training if we wanted to get up them, but we soon realised it was perfectly ok to hop on and off when we needed to.
Lovely route, yes as some people say it is not direct by any means but can’t see that matters, the route sticks to single track and traffic free places where possible.
Scenery was stunning, and we had some real adventures doing the way. Beautiful ride, glad we did it Morecambe to Bridlington, think the other way would be too much for us.
Great route.

Cycled it in 2.5 days. Not as good as Whitehaven - Sunderland but I enjoyed it

The route goes through major attractions along the route including Fountain Abbey, York Minster, Burton Agnes Hall etc. I did not find it particularly physically challenging apart of two or three fragments (e.g. just after Settle) when I had to push my bike.

There is some annoying routing after York, you almost feel you’re doing extra miles. Feel free to find cuts.

Overall, it’s a great experience which I would recommend to everyone. If I was to do it again I would do it in FOUR days and spend some time visiting attractions, food places etc.

Tough but excellent ride

Did this over 4 days from west to east (found an easterly wind of course). Well signed ( just make sure you only follow the signs with the 2 roses showing!). First two days were hard. Yorkshire is hillier than you might think, especially on hybrids and with panniers! Final two days slightly easier. Great variety of views, lovely people. Only downside was Morecambe - best to stay outside and cycle in for the start!

So good we did it twice
May 2019 • Friends
4 Of us did this ride in 2018 and it was so good I did it again this year with another pal and we carried our own gear over the 3 days that we took (some take longer, some less). As a cycle ride, I love it

Five riders , age range 61 to 72 , two e bikes ,three hybrids.First day from Morcambe bay to Gargrave (via Settle) very hilly but the scenery was spectacular,so worth the effort.Yes we all walked up the hill out of Settle but stopped to take in the views. One e bike needed a boost on his battery and was charged £5 for the privilege at the expensive bike shop in Settle even though he had a lunch in there. They also charged me £5 to adjust my front gears ( two minute job) we never used their toilets as there might have been a charge for that as well. Anyway refreshed a hills out of the way on to day Two. First half of day two still hilly but started to level out and day three much the same down to Bridlington. The signs into Bridlington not clear to the finish.CycleActive did a great job and would definitely do it again for the views beautiful villages and friendly other cyclists. Thinking about and bike but still resisting. Our two e bikes were certainly the pace bikes for us.

Another excellent cycle route

The Way off the Roses is an excellent cycle route, starting off on the Promenade in Morecambe. The route is easy to follow, there are well placed signs indicating the way.

Route through stunning rural Lancashire and Yorkshire
May 2018
Not to be missed - highlight of my 70th year! Did it in 3 stints of cycling. Sufficiently challenging route to give you a sense of achievement.
The route is well documented and signposted and there is lots of information of where to stay. Beautiful scenery all the way.

Fantastic route

One of the best UK routes I have done this year. We took it steady doing it over 3 days and yes it can be done faster but we totally took in the route and it made it for us. We did it during storm Ally (luckily a tail wind) and this did not detract from the ride. Very scenic and lovely roads......We are going to do it again in 2019
