Derick, was a brilliant tour guide, explaining everything concerning the mill, it was a real blast from the past, but having the experience of a man with expert knowledge brings this fascinating place to life. I just hope it continues to delight well into the future. As Macclesfield is not what it used to be. The crazy idea of a... More

We came to look at the Embroiders Guild Exhibition, but decided to visit the Mill/ go on the guided tour and visit the Museum, 2 separate buildings 20 yards apart. Really great. Demos of shuttle weaving, spinning and twisting. The machinery and idea of Jacquard weaving is so old and complex, all before computers, even though it uses punch cards... More

The silk museums provide interesting and valuable insight into Macclesfield's silk history. There are weaving demonstrations during the tours and exhibitions of beautiful garments and items fashioned from silk. The museum shop provided unusual gifts and has something every pocket can purchase.

The museum and mill hold a wealth of silk-related machinery, materials and knowledge. The museum is interesting and gives background on how the industry evolved and the challenges faced by the people of Macclesfield. It presents many items related to the silk trade, silk industry, design industry and the working lives of the people working in the mills. One thing... More

Visited on a Saturday afternoon and was pleasantly surprised how quiet it was which enabled me to look at all the displays easliy. There are various films to watch and also two aural histories which were interesting to listen too. You can see many examples of different silk pictures, stevenographs, materials etc. There are microscopes to look through and see cocoons... More

Both the museum and the silk mill were a very interesting look back at our industrial history. The tour guide, Malcombe, brought the weaving shed back to life with his knowledge and skillful delivery of the history of the silk trade in Macclesfield. The visit was arranged as part of a few days stay in Derbyshire, the staff I had... More

Go for the combined entrance to the museum and the Paradise Mill tour. £8 for an adult; concessions available. I would do the mill tour first and then mosey around the museum as having had everything explained the exhibits in the museum would mean much more. The mill tour was great. Our guide Mike was friendly, inclusive and informative, explaining... More

The Silk Museum itself is alright and informative, but the old mill is GREAT. I've never seen anything like it. The guides are really good and it's amazing to see everything just like old days.
