Very informative and enjoyed the tour and picking my own amethyst rocks. Also purchased earrings in the gift shop.

We always visit Panorama Amethyst mine when we are in the area .You can dig and pick amethyst. It’s all over, kids will love how easy and fun it is it’s underfoot, and in piles ,and there is a sorting reject bin where you can find amazing pieces with little effort. They are dog friendly which is nice. You go at your own comfort and interest level, you can find other minerals such as mica as well.I promise this is the best amethyst mine in the area (maybe all of Canada )Highly recommend.

We went there on a Cold rainy day. Lots of amethyst around to pick up.
The tour was short and I thought it was a bit pricy for the content. ( 5 minutes)
$4 per pound of rock can add up pretty fast. I think it’s expensive, one stone was $28.00, and nothing spectacular.

Driving home(eastern Ontario) from Alberta and took a chance turning in when we saw the sign - wasn’t sure what to expect but what an absolute delight! We enjoyed Tim’s tour and then poking around for pieces of amethyst to bring home…..my girls and I would have stayed all day and scoured around if I could have sent my husband for a round of golf! One of the highlights of our 2 weeks away from home, would recommend for all ages!

we made the mistake of visiting one of the other mines in the area first and then hit Panorama a few days later. What a huge difference. The folks at Panorama care about the mine and the tourists and were very informative and helpful pointing out the best way and places to get the sort of samples we were after. The first place pointed to their spoils pile consisting of 95% rock and a few traces of amethyst you had to break off the rocks if you could. At Panorama you are literally walking on Amethyst throughout the whole picking site, you just need to bend over and select the types and sizes of pieces you're after..

We stopped in at the Panarama Amethyst mine and had a really great visit and bought some really nice pieces of jewelry. They give pit tours for ten dollars and they give you a bucket to fill with rocks of amethyst specimens. No problem for kids to enjoy and learn a lot about this mine. The staff will tell you all about this place and it’s history. Lots of old machinery and carts there on display. Worth the trip to see this but remember that it is ten kilometres off the main road. We went in with a 43 foot fifth wheel trailer and had no issues but there is one steep hill. Lots of big parking spots and turn around. Not for wheel chair access as the pit is rough terrain. Tours are twenty minutes long.

Panorama Mine is fabulous. We spent the day picking up beautiful crystals and points. I couldn’t believe how much amethyst and quartz crystal there was everywhere—no digging; you just search for the pieces you love most. I spent 7 hours and didn’t cover all the hunting area. Also, the cost is very reasonable. The hunting will appeal to young children all the way to the most ardent rock hounds. I have never had so much fun picking rock, and I am a diehard hound! We are from Wisconsin and made the trip to Thunder Bay just to hunt amethyst. Panorama Mine did NOT disappoint! You will love it!

The owner (Tim) and his wife were very friendly and courteous. We spent few hours there, and we collected the best amethyst I have ever had in my life. I am an avid collector, and I already have a large amethyst collection from the USA, Uruguay, and Brazil. Yet, the chevrons, skeletal crystals, and multi-color crystals we collected today surpass any that I have ever acquired before. Great trip and definitely a repeat! Thanks a million :)

This is something we did out of the blue on our cross Canada road trip. (Alberta to NB) as my daughter is really into gem stones. Super fun little spot! We got to have a brief tour & mine our own amethyst. They’ve got hundreds of size options and the pricing is great. Definitely a good stop to make!

We made sure that we called ahead to find out any information that we needed. Tim was very helpful and even suggested a couple other sites that we should see while in thunder bay.

When we finally did arrive at the amethyst mine (yes there’s a steep hill but part of the adventure) we headed out to the bathrooms before we started digging. (bathrooms were clean and off to the side we were very impressed).

When we went into the mine store we were greeted with huge smiles and a rundown of what we could do and the process at the mine.

The tour was fast paced, informative and a perfect speed for my son and my daughter who couldn’t wait to start mining. Our tour guide had all the information and was able to answer questions about the mind and amethyst.

Let’s get down to the digging! There’s so many amethyst laying around on the ground that there was no digging if you didn’t want to do any. We all had so much fun ranging from ages 8 to 38. Finding amethyst of all shapes sizes colours it was definitely the highlight of our trip to Thunder Bay.

The only thing that we were not prepared for was the flies. We spent about two hours at the mine and my poor son was getting eaten alive so we called it quits. Had the flies not been there we probably could’ve spent the day there.

Thanks so much for showing my family and I a great time we look forward to the next time we can travel back to T-Bay.
