The gift shop and main building has interesting and informative displays and there is an excellent selection of products. There is an admission fee to go on a guided tour of the mine which we opted not to do.

I have been waiting many years to get here and it did not disappoint. My husband and i were so impressed by our experience at this amethyst mine. The road to the mine was very well taken care of but of course we drove to the conditions as they changed from paved to gravel. When we arrived we were greeted by very friendly staff who provided great attention to us as we toured the mine. We were provided the opportunity to move about the mine grounds and do some exploring and amethyst mining. We found some real gems indeed. The mine staff and owners provided a great experience and one that was well worth the wait. I highly recommend this place to people of all ages.

I came here in 1999 with my geology class and had such a good time that 20 years later I brought my whole family! We had an amazing day on the guided tour, mining for amethysts and washing off our discoveries. We ended up with 14 lbs of beautiful amethyst!

Beautiful spot to visit! We went up the hill in a truck camper with no problems. Go slow! We had a great laugh at the signage on the way up. The tour was truly interesting and Tim is a very approachable and friendly host. The gift shop is INCREDIBLE. We didn’t do the dig as the prices in the gift shop were really good, but, almost everyone else did the dig and we’re having fun doing it. Would recommend you take the time to see this hidden “gem”.

We loved this place! We rented an RV and were travelling from Toronto to Tofino. We did not know this mine existed but saw the sign on the way in.

We laughed much of the way in at the quirky signs that lined the road in. The tour with Tim was wonderful. We didn’t know anything about mining amethyst. We learned so much on the short tour! We also really enjoyed the store and bought some beautiful gifts for our family.

Thank You for your 6-star review! Toronto to BC by RV sounds like an epic adventure. We are so plesed that Panorama was one of your stops. Pro tip: The Amethyst used in our jewellery and gift items is mined right here @ Panorama .

The mine itself was very interesting BUT...the road into the mine was AWEFUL!!!! It was soooo poorly marked and you really take your life in your hands if you are driving more then a single family car. NO WHERE does it tell you that once you start up to the mine there is NO TURNING BACK or that there is a 10% grade in the middle. It says it has RV parking but you are out of your mind if you attempt to take any decent size trailer up that road!!!! We were driving 2 trucks...one pulling a 35ft 5th wheel trailer and the other pulling a 15ft moving trailer....there were moments that we were VERY worried that we wouldn't make it up the grade part. Then coming down wasn't much better....thank heavens for a multitude of braking options but still VERY NERVE WRACKING!!!

Yikes! Quite the review of the road! Sorry about the hill, it is a significant feature all right. We appreciate your concerns about the road and hill from a 5th wheel and moving trailer perspective. We are working on a turn around spot (immediately before the hill), but it is not yet completed.

Honestly, we were expecting more. We arrived just in time for the tour, and yes, Tim was very knowledgeable, and the geology was interesting, but after a family with a child joined, it seemed as though the entire tour r volved around her, and I felt that we were ignored.

I was under the impression that we would be digging for amethyst, and that was an exciting prospect, but when we arrived at the "digging site", I felt as though I were missing something. We were provided pails and what looked like rebar to dig, but there wasn't anything to dig. All the amethyst pieces were just sitting on the ground to be picked up.

I think little kids would have a great time, but for adults, I might give it a miss

Thanks for the review Wheatabix2012! You have described the "digging area" correctly. There is so much amethyst available this year that "digging" is not really required; you only have it pick it up. I can understand how that is not much of a challenge. I regret that you felt ignored on the tour. We attempt to interact with all our visitors and I will remind myself and our staff that everyone should be made to feel special.

We stopped here on our way from Thunder Bay up to Kapuskasing. It isn't actually a mine tour in so far as what you can see, but they teach you about the Amethyst and then let you loose in a field where they have dumped all the crystals they have dug out of the deposit. Our family had a lot of fun looking through them all and trying to find good ones to buy and take home.
