This is one of the most famous monasteries in Montenegro. It is 25 km away from Kolasin and was built on the right bank of Moraca in mid-13th century by a grandson of Stefan Nemanja - Stevan. There is a monastery church inside the complex which is dedicated to the Assumption of the Holy Virgin.

The monastery is located by the Morača river in a narrow valley, with steep rocky walls. It is located by the road, well visible and properly signposted. The religious complex consists of two fully painted churches and other buildings arranged in a semicircle around them. The frescoes are well-preserved and superbly finished.

This I a truly delightful monastery in beautiful gardens and in a stunning location in the Moraco canyon. Amazing wall paintings as in many of the monasteries in Montenegro ...it’s well worth a visit

It was a quiet time of the year when we went to visit the Moraca Monastery & we felt so lucky to be there. The fact there were only a few of us no doubt added to that special feeling & also the fact it's in a wonderful setting of splendid isolation. It's very peaceful place & has beautiful gardens & a lovely old Byzantine church with ancient icons & frescos. The monks are self sufficient & you can purchase honey (they have lots of hives & a fish farm among other things) & a couple of other items they produce too. There's a lovely spot to light candles which are made from the natural beeswax & when they all melt down again into a large block, they're recycled to make more candles. A beautiful place we felt privileged to visit & we're so glad we didn't miss it!!

Plenty of parking immediately outside and no entrance charge for the monastery. Firstly you are struck by how beautiful the grounds are. The semi circle of buildings around the church had colourful hanging baskets, flowers were blooming in the garden, all immaculately kept. And in the centre the attractive small church. Not special looking from the outside, internally it was. All the walls ceilings and domes painter with colourful religious scenes and a stunning gold iconoclast fronting the main altar. A large chandelier hung in the centre and looking up through it perfectly framed the main painted dome. A stunning small site.

Short stop, nice monestary, few buildings, nice scenary. The buildings have frescos inside, and paintings. For cristians it is more powerfull, for us it was nice. Weather was hot, 30°, so we spent there less than 30 minutes

A lovely monastery within its own gardens. Founded in 1252, the monastery is quite dark and small with frescos and icons. The gardens which surround the monastery are to keep the monks self sufficient, growing vegetables, fruit trees and bee hives. The church is surrounded by small quaint houses dashed with flower boxes. There is also a very cold water fountain offering water to the thirsty, many people taking a filled water bottle with them. The place radiates harmony and tranquility, be sure to stop there. We were fortunate not to coincide with a coach tour!

The Orthodox Monastery is set in well-kept gardens on the banks of the Moraca, just off the main road north out of Podgorica. The Church is beautifully decorated with frescos and a fine iconostasis. It is a very popular place for local people to visit.

Set in a picturesque position by a river, this monastery is small but historic. The frescoes are beautiful, but we were not able to photograph them. A lovely orthodox monastery.
