Home of the Marquess of Anglesey, with spectacular views of Snowdonia.Set on the shores of the Menai Strait amidst breathtakingly beautiful scenery, this elegant house was redesigned by James Wyatt in the 18th century. The 1930s restyled interior is famous for its Rex Whistler association, containing his largest painting and exhibition.A military museum contains relics from the 1st Marquess of Anglesey's tenure, who commanded the cavalry at the Battle of Waterloo. There's a fine spring garden and Australasian arboretum, with an understorey of shrubs and wild flowers, a summer terrace, and massed hydrangeas which give autumn colour.A woodland walk gives access to a marine path beside the Menai Strait.

Love this house

Had a lovely visit to this house which kept us out of the rain. Best bit was the excellent description about the subjects in the Whistler painting in the dining room.

Great National Trust property with an interesting history. Expansive and beautiful gardens, with plenty of space and activities for kids A Waterloo exhibition was on in part of the house which is very interesting. Views of the Menni straights and the bridges

We'd passed this place a few times heading for other 'beaches'. As NT members we thought we ought to pop in. Well it was a real pleasure. First go for a coffee, lovely tea rooms albeit a bit frantic. A walk along the Menai Strait shoreline. Then a visit to the house itself. Gosh quite amazing artefacts; the history, virtually... More

The views here are amazing! You could easily sit here all day reading a book. My youngest, 5, loved the little house gardens and enjoy searching for fish. The eldest, 9, enjoyed the house trail and adventure trail. The adventure trail isn't overly adventurous, but was enough to play on, just not as adventurous as expected. The place is perfect... A beautiful house, even more beautiful grounds and amazingly evenmore beautiful Italian terrace. Plenty of space to have a p8cnic and for the children to run around. Staff were fantastic, especially one gentleman who got my children engrossed and engaged. There is a specific way round that they ask you to go but they were polite in doing that and... More

Plas Newydd is a country house in Anglesey that has amazing gardens and woodland. It has amazing views - it overlooks the Menai Strait and Snowdonia. Within the house the dining room has a magnificent elliptical mural painted by Rex Whistler before World War 2 - make sure you ask the national trust staff / volunteer overseeing the room to... Visiting the area and thinking that this had been the setting for Antiques Roadshow, we were keen to see the property which lies amongst wonderful garden and woodland. The house is interesting and the staff very helpful in providing information. There are amazing views of the Menai Straits from so many of the rooms and the whole property has a... More

Very beautiful place. Good access and car parking, nice stroll to the house. House was very interesting with so much to see and learn, and stunning views from the upstairs bedrooms. We enjoyed a gorgeous walk through the grounds but didn't see any red squirrels unfortunately. Tea room was average though, very slow service and quite warm. However, the tea... More
