Good site. Not too much for the children, but adults should like the history and architecture of the old buildings from around Denmark

This museum is an excellent open air museum with a very good collection of beautiful buildings. The museum is very near Copenhagen and thus can be easily visited. Visiting most of the museum will take about half a day and it is quite spread out so bring good walking shoes. While the museum has many beautiful historic homes and buildings,... More

This was our second visit to Hjerl Hede - after almost 20 years and it was even better this time around. During the summer months the village is filled with reenactors who explain and demonstrate tools and crafts from bygone eras. This time we were extra lucky to see the Stone Age exhibition. It is only performed early in the... More

We are a family of five with children 7, 8 and 9 and we all loved it! It was interesting to see how people lived, dressed, worked and cooked in the past. We took a picnic and there were plentry of designated areas to stop at as well as toilets relatively close by. Our only negative is that some of... More

Travelling with three generations, the open air museum was great fund for all. The chance to see how farm life was through generations adding the presence of volunteers dressed in traditional, yet best sunday, clothes was interesting and fun. The bakery, the saw mill and the steam train was the hightlight, though the workshop staff - all trained craftsmen was... More

This place is best to visit in the summer holidays, as local population make the place alive. Dressed in old close working, cooking and everything else as a 100 years ago, you and your family can participate in many activities, such as an old school, riding a carriage an many many other things, It is really worth the trip and... Well presented, lots of demonstrations and friendly staff. Some buildings need better care. The watermill f.i. has a problem that is very loud and clear. One top grinding stone is in disbalance and not correctly hung/ centered.

During the Danish summer holidays Hjerl Hede offers its visitors a taste of what life was at different times in history. Try the steam train, taste the traditional Danish "rygbrød" (rye bread) and attend lessons at the village's school. Well worth the visit.
