On Easter day we went to visit the art gallery, one of the best set up that I remember having seen in recent years: paintings positioned at the right distance and height, well-placed lights that don't force you to contort yourself to see the paintings without reflections, sitting in the various rooms... The icing on the cake was the guided tour with Mr. Giovanni, patient, passionate and highly prepared. To those who intend to visit the art gallery, I highly recommend the fixed-departure guided tour that the art gallery organizes one Sunday a month at 11 am (information on the official Bresciamusei website).

Excellent gallery. It is of human size, well organized, everything is visible and approachable. Don't limit yourself by looking only at big names like Raphael, enjoy less known painters such as Romanino and Moretto. Strongly recommended.

It has always been a splendid building and a beautiful art gallery but it had an old layout and was very dark, this did not allow the works to be exalted as they deserve. After the restoration which took place a few years ago, the museum has flourished again, the warm colours, the light, the new display cases make the collections of paintings, sculptures and glass shine. Moretto, Lotto, a small Raphael and some statues by Canova are already worth the price of the ticket

if you have at least a couple of days available to visit the not too flashy but full of hidden treasures city of Brescia. In 21 rooms on the first floor, in a very pleasant layout, there is a succession of pictorial works but also some sculptures and valuable objects ranging from the fourteenth to the nineteenth century. There are some masterpieces by local painters, such as Moretto, Romanino and Savoldo, but also works by other important artists from Northern Italy, such as Ceruti 'il Pitocchetto', Foppa and Hayez. Two works by Raphael also give prestige to the art gallery. Some works by Lorenzo Lotto are on display until 7 April 2024.

How much better every connoisseur and art lover could expect! Masterpieces and treasures that inspire and excite.
A dutiful thank you for the explanatory notes and advice to Mr. Emanuele, who, with the modesty of someone who knows, was able to contribute to our fascinating visit to the Art Gallery!
Absolutely worth seeing!

I confess my ignorance: I didn't know this art gallery. I visited it today. An incredible wealth of very important works of great value for the "path" of Italian art. A beautiful, well-kept setting. Very simple educational paths (and therefore the result of long study). An almost absolute perfection, the result of the pragmatism and ability to "do well" of the friends of Brescia. Coming from a Bergamo native, this statement is worth double!!!

Recently re-opened, this is a a jaw dropping museum. Housed in a former palazzo, the rooms are gigantic as are the art works. Think huge palazzo reception rooms, painted red, with art works that are just as huge as the walls and looked like they were finished yesterday. I still can’t absorb how vibrant the colors are, how fresh the paint looks, and the sparkle off the Carrara marble sculptures. In the US, there would be hard barriers keeping you 5 feet from the works. You can get close enough to examen the wisps of white for lace, the nuances of that rich Venetian red paint and infinite shades of blue on a cape. I was so stunned examining one of the main sculptures that I forgot to take a photo of remembrance. This museum is unique in that it is one of the few where the art pieces were painted locally or by artists born in the area, a testament to the enduring wealth of Brescia through the centuries. Do not consider this one of the secondary museums of Brescia. Run, not walk, and visit this place.

Brescia needs more than a day to do it justice so on my second visit , this famous Art Gallery was a priority.
Entrance is 8 euros but free if you have a Brescia Card or the Abbonamento Musei Lombardia card which was the one I used constantly.
The building itself only re-opened a few months ago and the decoration is superb.
Different colours and ceiling textures give each room a personality of its own but you do also have a jaw dropping collection of Art.
What with Raphael and Moretto , a whole room of Ceruti and a stunning 'Moses and the Burning Bush' up high in the ceiling, it's quite breathtaking.
Room 13 holds the glassware and has an unbelievable Majolica tiled ceiling.
Giordano, Lotto, Tournier are all there.
Hayez famous 'Refugees of Parga' and 'Jacob and 'Esau' are on display , never mind his other works.
Sculpture by Canova and Ferrari as well.
I visited the Brera in Milan last week but this museum in Brescia was heaven on earth. A big thank you to the curator and those involved in the re-design.
Enthusiastic and helpful staff as well.

This building was under restoration for years, but reopened in March . If you visit the Tiziano -exhibition in the Santa Giulia-museum, your ticket is also valid in the Pinacoteca. A good idea: it shows more and beautiful work of the same group of (mostly) Brescian painters like Moretto, Romanino, Foppo. This way we learned a lot about style , colours, etc, while enjoying the restored building as we went around.
