Government spent enormous sums to restore and reconstruct these two villas clearly with the intention of opening them as major tourist attractions, but then encountered local difficulties that blocked their plans. Today they are open for free with local volunteers providing information and tours for...More

After a 20 minute walk from the train station you can visit two beautiful villas, the Villa Arianna and the Villa san Marco which is 1 kilometer down the road. Both great and big and different from each other. So they give a good impression...More

You can visit two villas in Castellamare, Villa Arianna and Villa San Marco. We went to Arianna first, we walked there from the trainstation in 20 minutes. Take care to have something like google maps with you, because the route is not indicated very well....More

Excellent excavations without the crowds and free entry. Within walking distance of Castellammare di Stabia (allow 20 minutes from the train station) Very interesting if you are fascinated by excavations from Vesuvius

We have visited Castellammare many times over the years and included trips to Pompei and Ercolano but never visited these excavations on our doorstep before. I was on foot and they are well tucked away but we'll worth the effort. There is no entrance fee...More

This place is well worth a visit if you enjoy Roman history. It is a little tricky to find if you're on your own but very rewarding. There are only 2 large villas that have been excavated and there is some excellent detail to see....More

Catch the Circumvesuviana Train to Castellammare di Stabia from Naples and alight at Via Nocera. The trip takes about 20 minutes. Villa Arianna is slightly closer to the station so this was our first stop, which takes around... More

I didn't notice any taxis by the station when I was there - I agree with KTGP that it would probably be better to phone or e-mail to book one.
