This enchanting place born in the lagoon has been transformed by a coming and going of modern caravans (cars) although the road is closed to traffic, you have to pay attention to the vehicles passing by... but where will they ever go?!? You think that perhaps the place is still inhabited but no... there are some bars/restaurants along the way that allow entry to all motorized vehicles! There are 5 km of road that are wonderfully passable by bike or on foot and so this experience is worth living. I recommend going during the week and around sunset.

Together with my parents we drove down the road to S LÃo Piccolo. The images before our eyes are evocative. The salt marsh is a particular biotope which acquires a particular charm in the Venetian lagoon. I didn't take photos, but the view was very beautiful. The weather was bad and the water a little rough. Lots of lagoon fauna.

I've read reviews here about there being little to see at Lio Piccolo. I understand that view, but i think it misses the point.
Out there in the lagoon you are surrounded by tranquillity. It is worth visiting at different times of the day as the place changes with light and the tide. The wildlife is spectacular, and at sunset the sounds of the lagoon with crickets, birds etc without the disturbance of the world around has to be experienced. And the sunsets.......!
Lio Piccolo itself has some old buildings and a bell tower that chimes on the hour. There is a board that informs of the history, that could be made more of.
For me, just to travel and arrive by bike, taking in the sights and sounds is what this place is all about.
Don't go there! Keep it quiet.

One upon a time Lio Piccolo was a sizable village of fishermen and farmers in one of the more remotes corner of the Venice Lagoon.
In the last 50 years has declined and lost almost all its population. About thirty years ago the local school has closed and a very few children live in the area today.
The village center still has a church and few pictoresque closed buildings.
There are a few places where you can sleep (agriturismo).
It is an amazing place to cycle around in a beautiful and silent natural environment.
About half September all local people come back and fill Lio Piccolo with life for a Weekend. It is the Sagra della Giuggiola, definitely worth a visit if you want to eat local food and know the real people of the lagoon.

It's really beautiful visiting the area by bike: it's absolutely safe and you can wander in the small roads along the channels of the lagoon. The landscape is amazing especially at the sunset when the colours make everything magical.

A company called Blue Dreamjhas a boat which goes from Cavallino to Lio Piccolo. One can then cycle back around the lagoon. It is well worth taking it.

We hired bikes from Ca'savio but the visit was cut short as it started to rain. Nice little place for a bike ride!

A nice bicycle ride from Punta Sabbioni or Cavellino. From Ca Savio cross to Treporti and it is a lovely cycle through the lagoon. Lots of wildlife, including white flamingos. It is like moving back a century and safe. Stop for lunch in Treporti at Locanda Zanella to make a nice journey.

Ciao a tutti.

How do you get to Lio Piccolo from the main island of Venice? Where do you rent a bike from?

Hi
We were staying near Punta Sabbioni which is about a half hour vaporeto ride from San Marco.
Bike hire available locally but I’d check out online in advance.

No, non ho visto pescare nessuno. E' zona di barene della laguna, l'acqua è poco fonda. Tra l'altro io sono stato in inverno e l'acqua era quasi tutta ghiacciata.
