It is interesting to go to this free sanctuary where the views are spectacular and even more so if the day is clear. Since it was not guarded, people took the car up to the steps. Miraculous marble virgin. Be careful where the GPS takes you from Cefalú. Do not take the first detour to the right on a small road

We had a wonderful trip up the mountain, with gorgeous views along the way to this gorgeous church, so serene & peaceful. Bring a picnic lunch to have outside the grounds while you're there!

Wonderful place but ABSOLUTELY ABANDONED! Unique life forms? 3 cows and 10 kittens along the way!!! We walked around without meeting anyone! Museum and religious shopping area? Closed! Refreshment point? A coffee dispenser and a water dispenser! No friar met nor anyone to ask for information. Truly shameful!
Church opened and in 90 minutes no one showed up! Great business card for tourists! GOATS🤬🤬🤬🤬

A top this mountain in the Madonie mountains there is this sanctuary. It has an old church, convent and beautiful views of the mountains. My husband and I always visit when we go to Sicily since our hometown in next to this place. A few nights we went to the restaurant that they have on the premises. We were 16 people and we all ordered different varieties of pizza. I tried the quartro formaggio (4 cheese), with garlic. It was excellent!!!. They even have Karaoke. So we sang and danced and had a great time. Don't know if this restaurant is opened during the day since the Italians eat dinner very late at night.

You can look around but beware that if you are wearing shorts or T shirts that do not cover your shoulders that you will not be allowed in.So either dress according or have a sorong and wrap to put around your shoulders.Or just stand outside and poke your head inside.Beware the stones in front of the church are uneven and lots of it are missing shame really.

Dozens of hairpins, narrow bends, great views.
Total silence at the monastery.
But nothing really special, unless you are a real church fan.

Its worth for, trekking lovers, start from Cefalù and take, with a local guide or tour organised by CAI CEFALU' (Club Alpino Italiano), the steepy footpath that brings to the Sanctuary after 15 km. of hard walk with ever changing Panorama and bushes of the Madonie Park that host 65-70% of fauna and biodiversity of Sicily.
The faith of people of Cefalù is a big support to the few old monks that serve with few volunteers the pilgrims,.
The building host structure is not beautiful but the courtyard, of monastery ,the little interesting museum, the library, the monks house are beautiful examples of old stone houses. The Via Crucis steps are worth to climb but lamps are all broken,
Few hours here shall bring peace and serenity in your minds.

Arrived during a service, sat quietly looking at the interesting features. The priest's sermon was interesting to listen to.
