Recommended visit to enjoy the view of the island of Elba. Organized bidonvia with staff who help get on and off.
Bar / restaurant on departure open; on arrival closed.
Compared to 15 years ago there has been a proliferation of antennas on top, but it deserves anyway.

A nice special experience.
I didn't even know, that on Elba there was a gondola lift to the highest peak, from which you could admire the island almost 360°.
It is a unique scenic area, from which to take lots of beautiful photos.
Only shame, the plant a little expensive: 20€ return, 10€ for children.

We used the very suggestive and fun cable car. The journey is quite long compared to what we expected: there are 22 pylons. Once you reach the top of 1019 meters the view is beautiful. You can see the island at 360°. On the way down we stopped at the restaurant adjacent to the facility. We ate well and sitting at the outside tables among the greenery was nice.

Worth the visit. Cable car (basket lift) takes you to the top in 18 minutes.
Marciana departure station.
At the arrival station the view is already open.
To the top you walk 100 meters of rocky path in steps, not dangerous, short, 10 minutes, but challenging.
360-degree panorama.
Closed shoes recommended, no sandals or slippers.
Open Bar - refreshment at the valley station
Closed bar refuge mountain station
Check the weather forecast.

Quiet ascent, beautiful view, despite the antennas. Price too high, poor services (the bar at high altitude was closed in high season) poor security. Some exposed passages are unprotected, others have their net broken or broken. Money is, but maintenance and safety are not. We are not here

Definetely a must-do when at Isola d'Elba.
Being a hot day in July we chose to go up with the cable car and went down by foot. Very steep and rough, the path is not always well indicated. Be sure to wear appropriate trekking shoes.
This considered, it is absolutely a suggested trip!

So worth it. It can get cold and windy for the top 1/3 of the ride, but it's worth the effort. You can see Porto Ferraio and Porto Assure at the same time from the top. The bird cage experience is just so goofy you have to do it if you are there.

We made the climb on foot, the first part was very beautiful and easy up to the hermitage, then gradually more challenging and rocky up to the top. Being October, the heat was bearable and it felt good. Once you get there the wonderful view makes the effort worth it, really beautiful!
The downside is that the walk is really badly signposted, and it is practically impossible to go down on foot without losing the path. We tried, gave up and took the cable car.

We rode the Monte Capanne "cable car" with two small children (3 years and 18 months) and it's quite an adventure. Each "car" is a simple yellow cage that you stand in for the ride to the top. Like a skiing chairlift, these cages don't stop...you have to jog alongside and hop into the cage (then the attendant closes the "door" for you).

If you're squeamish about heights...it could make you nervous...but in my opinion it was really quite safe...even with the little ones.

It was a lot of fun and the views over Elba are spectacular. On a clear day you can really see the entire island.

The ride takes about 18 minutes each way, it starts up through a forest of chestnut trees and then gets "above the treeline" to the top of the mountain. The terrian in interesting and it seemed like great hiking or mountain biking trails existed the whole way up.

One last note- there's a (surprisingly) great microbrewery at the bottom that brews Elba beer using natural island springwater.

We did a tasting of the 4 beers they were currently making, and each was good. The stout, specifically (made with hints of those Chestnuts I mentioned earlier) was nutty and delicious. If you like beer, it's a worthwhile diversion for a glass or two.
