the castle is very beautiful, extensive and with several well-preserved buildings. The view from up there is remarkable. During the visit, along the climb to the highest point, we entered a building that houses the Museum of Fables. It was the most beautiful moment of the visit, thanks to the magical atmosphere created by an incredible storyteller who for 25 years, every day, has told stories of knights and damsels, fishermen and mythological characters, making adults and children taste a piece of Sicily , the most authentic one, which captures your heart. His name is Nino Pracanica, and he made us live 'a fairy tale'.

The castle is a nice complex, well kept, but not valorised.
The walk is very tiring, especially with children and strollers in tow.
The view is spectacular.
Inside the sea museum is a good attraction for children, it's a shame that it is not supported by staff or that there are no events.

A very beautiful castle, a very interesting structure, unfortunately with many signs of neglect and neglect. Many empty rooms and without route indications. A structure that has immense potential that is minimally exploited.
The MU.MA was disappointing... the exhibition was now dated and neglected (for example there was a sign for a multimedia experience, but not the staff to whom the sign suggested contacting), the Tonnara museum was interesting (although that too was dated).
Lastly, due to an event, visiting hours were reduced, but no notice was displayed on the site.

The fortified citadel is an experience to be had. It's really big, in fact we're talking about one of the largest castles in Europe. it is wonderfully well preserved, made up of several buildings, including the Muma (go there!!!), I love the courtyard of the castle, where shows are often held... and then the view is breathtaking: Eastern and Western seas and from the latter you can admire the Aeolian Islands on the horizon!

Really beautiful to look at! It looks like it hasn't been finished yet, the restaurant shown on the map doesn't exist and there are still cables for the lighting along the paths. Apart from a few missing information cards, it's really well prepared. Definitely take the guide with you to listen to, there's a lot more information than on the signs. Great view of the sea. We also found the whale impressive, even if the story behind it is very sad.

All in all, a lovely day trip destination that we can recommend.

Long walk inside the complex. Calmly we spent almost 3 hours. However, the restorations have disfigured many original environments.
Recommendation: do not enter the room of the fairytale museum because you will find an exalted old man who will block you with his speeches about the Self and other ramblings. They should kick him out.

The owner of the apartment we rented in Milazzo recommended it to us. Bellissimo, he said.
So there we were. The castle only opens at 4 p.m. in the afternoon. We went up on foot in the middle of Gagnar. We were told that it was one of the largest citadels in Europe. I don't even know where to start. Apart from the view, there is nothing. 5€ per adult for nothing. Fortunately the children don't pay. A bogus exhibition on plastics in the ocean, well seen when we see the state of Sicily, for us basic French, it's obvious but for Sicilians I understand that it's more than necessary. An empty cathedral under construction, an empty building, wasteland everywhere and finally the old prison. In short, move on. You can have the same view from another site. Personally, I have seen so much chestnut and citadel better than this. Instead, go see the Venus swimming pool even if it’s a little overcrowded. We did it at sunset, everyone left, it was great.

Considerable size of the whole complex (not only of the castle rich in rooms and environments) that is worth visiting all, following the explanations to better appreciate the peculiarities and history. The museum of the sea, the museum of the "tonnara", the various adjacent walkways... Spectacular views of the sea, the city and the Aeolian Islands. Special thanks to the ticket office staff, very courteous and helpful.

Really cool castle and exhibits and grounds to explore. So glad we did this on our first afternoon in Milazzo - it’s a bit of a hike uphill from the ferry area of town, but we’ll worth the walk. Extensive grounds and properties, and it was actually free to get in the day we went. The exhibits are all really well done, with tons of information and things to learn. Set aside a couple hours at least - we thoroughly enjoyed this, even without a guide.

Milazzo is a beauty city in the northeast of Sicily Island. There are several attractions, one of the best is surely the castle.
