Orvieta's magnificent Duomo (cathedral) is considered one of the must-see churches in Italy for its stunning gold-and-mosaic Gothic façade and magnificent frescoes by Luca Signorelli, which had a great influence on Michelangelo's work in the Sistine Chapel.

This has to rank in the top 5 of cathedrals in Italy. It reminded me of the Duomo in Siena. The exterior frescos are amazing and the ceiling and walls inside are breathtaking. It's a definite "gotta see" in Italy and only an hour or...More

The Duomo in Orvieto is very impressive and is certainly not less than Siena or Florence Duomo. It is smaller though. We visited in the afternoon and we could just walk in. Try that in Florence or Siena.

Excellent visit, although it is probably more impressive looking on the outside than the inside. But a must visit.

Magnificent cathedral dominates the central square of Orvieto. Mos interesting details, rose window, three large bronze doors. In the shade of the cathedral there is a little ice cream shop with the best pink grapefruit ice cream ever.

This was one of the sites in Orvieto which made us want to visit the city and we were not disappointed. The building is made of beautiful stone and occupies a position at the highest point in the city. The façade is fantastic with sculptures...More

A beautiful church. It competes with some of the most beautiful that we have seen in our travels. The tour of the inside has an audio tour that I would recommend. If the tour isn't what you're looking for, skip the inside and just enjoy...More

This is a lovely Church, with so much history. I had heard about the host which bled during consecration, and considered a miracle in a sermon while I was at home in Church. I decided to go visit the town, and the Church while in...More

I prefer the Duomo of Orvieto to the Duomo of Sienna by far. It has a very elegant facade made of black and white marble, a serene, simple nave, impressive paintings in the transcepts with a lot of gold and strong colour contrasts and nice...More

A fantastic example of medieval architecture. You really get the sense that the entire economy of the city centered around constructing this building for generations. The paintings inside were particularly beautiful.

Orvieto is an hour north of Rome, but filled with architecture and beauty that is worth the trip. The facade of the Orvieto Cathedral is amazing and so detailed. Inside the church is also beautiful. If the day is hot, it is nice to walk...More
