The tour provider will happily take you on a trip to the blue grotto at 9am, but the guide will tell you that the blue light effect is much more spectacular in the afternoon when the opening in the rocks gets direct sunlight.

We went with Allesandro's. Great guide who spoke excellent English. Sun loungers are included in the price. Only went into one grotto as the others were closed but you get a good impression from the area. Clear water. Definitely worth it.

We took a boat excursion to go inside the blue grotto, which is a phenomenon. Sites include a light house, and a weather station. Interesting rock formations.

We took this tour along the stunning coastline near Palinuro, where limestone cliffs plunge into the sea which has hollowed out these sea caves. The weather was fine, the sea calm, I could understand the boatman's Italian at least a little, we all had a leaflet explains the main features we would see and the boTman pointed them out with... The visit to the sea caves of Palinuro is not to be missed if you are in the area. For a modest cost of €15 per person you will be ferried along a spectacular limestone coast with a succession of fascinating caves then given the chance of a swim in a beautiful cove. Do check the sea state before hand... More
