To date, a desolate building, dirty and in ruins; a heritage to be valued. The ancient historic buildings in Portoferraio are abandoned to negligence.

A large fortress with great views over the city and port area. Interesting small museum on Bonaparte, 2nd world war, and the castle/port. Also has a nice bar/cafe at the start of the walk down with good views.

Spent a few hours at Fort Falcone, the views of the harbour are amazing. Well worth the entrance money alone. It is. quite well preserved and was very quiet when we were there. Entrance fee included admission to 3 other museums

Worth the trek ... Flip-flops not advised as footing is not always steady. Totally worth the time and effort.

Apart from the spectacular views which you can have for free elsewhere the whole museum scene in Portoferraio is a waste of money. No work going in to their maintenance and the few displays are simply thrown up there. A real disaster. Skip them. You...More

This was a very old fort, with breathtaking views. We would have loved to know what the buildings with four chimney type structures were. Well worth the hike!

The walk to the Fort is quite steep but the views are amazing from the top. There is a history documented on various rooms within the fort and there are some artefacts but not as many as we expected. The views of the harbour are...More
