An imposing structure which gives great views of Prato and surrounding Tuscany from the walls. There are some internal rooms open as well which are worth a look. The inside of the castle itself is a surprise as it's little more than fortified walls.

We arrived at the fortress excited to see what was inside such a commanding structure - you can see it from a distance and we were looking forward to our visit. When we approached it from one side, we saw a huge staircase leading up...More

In a city well known for its present and even more past role, as center of the textile industry (Prato was also called "the Manchester of Italy") this castle, along with other architectural jewels, helps to remind us that Prato is still a municipal city...More

The Castle is very historical and can only make me wonder what happened there in its time. Now it is beautifully presented and hold events often. At night time it is lit up and bright white! A sight to behold

The walls are being repaired so you cannot go up into the tower or walk around the top level until Mid to late May 2018. It is worth a quick visit to see the shell of the 1200AD castle that was never finished.

Castello dell Imperatore in Prato is unfortunately only an empty shell. It looks just like a Hollywood medieval castle with its square towers and high walls, and it really adds to the look of the area. Entrance is free.

This castle was built in the mid 1200s but never fully completed, only the outer walls and towers. It is the only example of Swabian style architecture in North central Italy. Although empty inside it is an impressive building and free to enter. There are...More
