Villa Rufolo has a lot going for it - its festivals, its location right in the center of Ravello, its views of the sea and its pretty gardens. However, except for the lower price, Villa Cimbrone is better in almost everything - statues, gardens, views. If you're in Ravello and only want to go to one villa, make it Villa Cimbrone.

You know you have seen it everywhere every time you click on Italian images on tourist brochures...it is the one image which seems to sell Italy in an instant. Pack it bottle it sell it they say. They truly did.
We went to Rufolo Villa because of our keen interest in garden and anything with architecture to go with it. It has some element of of Moorish. Alhambra of sort on an Italian cliff may be? We had to see it. Curious we were.
The garden was truly magical. A beautiful terrace with formal parterre and bright bougainvilleas flowers dripping from the wall.
Everything was well maintained and tidy and clean.
Wait till you see the view from the first win dow suddenly squeezing yourself on a crowded Amalfi coast bus from Dirrenti at 9 am made sense. You have met the tree. The most photographed pine tree in Italy. It stands there saying here I am. Waiting for you. Where have you been all my life?
The umbrella pine from Ravello is the pine that has it all. Fame and beauty and strength to endure everything thrown at her.
I said ciao to the tree and she just stood there smiling. She doesn't need a Facebook or an Instagram account. She is an icon of Italy. Heck she was more dignifiec than any of them.

Beautiful garden complex with an amazing view of the coastline. The buildings are well-preserved.
We enjoyed a walk around the gardens which, for being end of September, had a variety of colourful flowers.
The visit is worth taking!

If possible, I would have given a 'zero' rating to Villa Rufolo. Although, its architecture might be historically significant, if one is not attending any music concert or performance at Villa Rufolo, there is nothing much to see there paying high priced tickets. We could literally walk through the entire complex in 20 minutes. It is a total rip-off of tourists' money. I won't suggest tourists to waste their time and money here.

I found the actual Villa interesting, but lacking a little in substance. The gardens themselves were nice, but not as nice as Villa Cimbrone. Apart from the picturesque towers and most photographed tree in Italy, the art was also interesting.

First the negatives, it was $7E to get in which is high considering Pompeii & Herculaneum UNESCO sites are only $15/$13 respectively. Also, some of the gardens were being torn out and redone. Positives are the beautiful vistas and areas that had blooming gardens. Great for photos. Price to Value not as fabulous.

The views are stunning, the entrance fee is minimal and you could spend as long as you like here. Pic nics not allowed, which is a shame but perhaps a good thing as people can be very inconsiderate at some of the prime spots. The view across the Amalfi Coast with the Pine trees is considered by many to be one of the finest & you will see why if you visit. Great little museum in the grounds too. The plants are in places simply stunning, even if youre not a gardener, you can't help but appreciate what is presented for your viewing. Many, many fine photo opportunities with splendid backdrops. We liked it so much we've bought tickets for an evening musical concert up there. Magical and romantic.

In my opinion, the gardens here are less impressive than at Cimbroni. Younger visitors might be attracted by the bell tower that provides views over the villa and gardens, but you don't really see any more from up there than you do generally in Ravello. The gardens are smaller than Cimbroni, but nevertheless pleasant. And if you're in Ravello only for an hour or so, this is more accessible, being in the town centre.

Beautiful park with many nice places where one can see flowers and plants. And a great view of parts of the Amalfi Coast. Here it is very good with a couple of hours of relaxation.

It is an interesting historical and musical site, and certainly one you would visit in this town, but don't have high expectations of the famous gardens if you live in the southern hemisphere. Many of the plants are not so special (in fact weeds) in Sydney where we live. To be fair, we visited in early October so perhaps not the best moment to see them when everything needs pruning and weeding. But the astonishing view to the sea is possible from many places on the coast.
