About
One follows via Gargnano (Gardesana Occidentale National Road SS 45bis) from the centre of Riva heading towards Limone. This dirt track carves it’s way up the eastern side of the mountains on the lake. It’s a shared track between walkers and cyclists. Be warned some cyclists tear up and down and don’t let pedestrians get in their way.
The track climbs steadily from Riva, never steeply, but a steady ascent. Their are info boards along the way which provide historical context. No facilities, other than a cafe after about an hour’s walking.
Unfortunately this track does not yet connect with the cycle route coming from Limone, but when it does, this whole route will be a fab way to see the northern end of the beautiful lake Garda.

Amazing bike ride!!! The views are spectacular. We did it on electric mountain bikes so it wasn’t so tiring. Others did it on regular bikes. Some people in Riva are extremely strong bike riders. There are bike paths and smaller roads to so many beautiful places!! It’s fun to watch the 1000 sailboats in the water

Best views of Garda, a must do. I would recommend taking an e-Bike if you aren’t fit as it is a lot of uphill but so worth it! The trail was quite busy so care in needed on the way up and down. Leave plenty of time for appreciating the view and a swim in Ledro!

The wife and I hired a couple of e-mtb's and although she is very inexperienced, she blasted up the track to the lake and back. The "E' mtb's make what would be a strenuous cycle much, much easier and a whole lot more enjoyable.
The track itself is an awesome experience, superb views and very exciting.
There are a few idiot cyclists as expected but these are the exception.
Took about 4 hours including lunch, a cycle around the lake and the descent.
You can very easily walk it and I think this would be equally exhilarating but much slower.

I went for a morning run and it definitely worths the uphill effort. The trail is well maintained and the views are spectacular.
I went up for 4.5km and then back to Riva Del Garda. A great way to start the day

Super nice views. Great bike and good signs for the route. We took round also over the beautiful Lago di Ledro and had lovely lunch there. Highly recommend👍🏻

First off this is a wonderful path (old road) along the side of lake Garda which is used by walkers and cyclists. Views are superb.
We found the bikes really annoying - cycle lane is on the right so away from the edge and bikes continuously cut across so cyclists can take a pic….there are also some sections where cycle path goes through tunnels while walkers stick to high edge - guess what happens!?
Oh and don’t think you are safe on the pavement from Riva!!
Anyway enjoyed it…..

I travelled solo multiple times along this road and never got bored of the views! I prefer to travel off the beaten path and found myself following small paths off the main track. The most beautiful place I found on this hike was just after Bellevue cafe. Beautiful waterfalls and I was the only person there! Continue straight on the road after arriving at Bellevue cafe. After you cross the bridge and walk a little further, take the first track off to the left (sign says Ex Porto Del Ponale). Continue on this track for about 5 minute and you’ll see some beautiful waterfalls to your left. You can climb down the rocks to the waterfall, just be careful as the ground is a bit slippery. Plenty to hold onto though and worth it!

Fantastic route along the cliff edge, even for those who may not be very fit. We started the walk late hence could not complete all 7km. The views are breathtaking. Only minus point would be the bicycles going up and down, and some of them are flying down the path. If like us you struggle to find the starting point, park in the Riva del Garda town and walk into the information centre which is right next to the parking area and they will provide you with a map to the starting point.

Reasonably easy hike that starts from the edge of Riva by the power station... takes about an hour to work your way up to the Belvedere where you can get a meal or a drink and then continue on to other trails. Trail is an easy hike and while you have to watch for the bikers, as others have said, so long as you keep your eyes peeled and stay mostly to the side, you'll be fine. Portions get quite windy at times and dust can blow in your eyes but overall there are no hazards other than a sprained neck from the amazing views. Can be done with children who are used to hiking.

Hi is this suitable to walk with a 6yrs old?? Is there a nice circuit for a family walk? Do you need bikes?
Many thanks
Written July 30, 2019
It could be a tough walk for a 6 year old and probably a bit too steep on a bike for a child. you could always take a steady walk, admire the views and turn back it it is too tough.
